[opensuse] archiving a btrfs root

Hello, I want a copy of my / I don't really plan to restore the hole thing with the backup, but I need to find again the various config files I may have spread in / to use them in the future, in case of disaster. rsync seems *not* to be able to do this, at least with the usual -av options. as far as I can tel, rsync recurses int he .snapshot folder and fills the target. [opensuse] KDE issues following upgrade to TWeed 20180116 (with fix)

I don't remember the Tumbleweed serial that I was on before then specifically, but my last upgrade day was Jan 8 of this year. Following the upgrade, after rebooting my laptop and logging into Plasma, I was greeted with a black screen with a mouse cursor. The weird thing is I could still hear my computer sounds in the background, and the mouse cursor would change shape based on what was underneath it. Eg., KGPG prompts for my password on login, and I could enter the password and hit enter and the mouse cursor would change appropriately. I could also (blindly) do alt+f2, type in konsole<enter>, type in screen<enter>, start a ping, and then resume that screen session from one of the virtual terminals. So it was as if KDE was running but hidden. I tried creating a new user account and trying to log into it (same issue,) so I knew that it wasn't a profile problem. As I was telling YaST to "upgrade" the various Mesa packages, as soon as I did that with the "Mesa" package, it auto-added two additional packages that weren't installed at the time - Mesa-dri and Mesa- gallium. After reinstalling all of the Mesa packages (including those two additional ones) and rebooting, all was back to normal again :) So it seems as if possibly that dependency wasn't set up correctly? [opensuse] Leap 42.3 & MATE - Almost unusable due to missing mouse clicks

Hi, I have MATE desktop on 42.3 installed from this repository http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/MATE:/Current/openSUSE_Leap_… Tried on 3 PCs (2 bare metal and 1 virtual appliance under KVM), and on all of them there is a common symptom - missing mouse click on bottom toolbar / start menu. Its impossible to launch anything, ar add launch icon to the desktop (apart from terminal command line of course). Googling didn't help. Anyone have any idea how to fix this ? Thanks in advance. [opensuse] rsync between two years

Hello, The web is filled with rsync examples, but I found none that fit my needs an find and rsync options are really hard to manage. I have a tree of various files I use frequently, that get larger each year. I want to archive them by year or range of years (example from start to 2010, from 2011 to 2012... at the end nothing must be ommitted I have a lot of 32Gb sd cards and the whole file shouldn't be more than 3 or 4 cards. What is the best way to do this? All, Prepping for 42.2 to 42.3 update (yes, I'm actually going to try -- rather than clean install), I want to dump an image of my current 42.2 system to a spare 1T drive. I never do this (other than brute force dd images or shove the spare drive in an use parted to copy partitions). What is the current favorite (FOSS) disk imaging utility being used. I'm not looking for long - HOWTO answers, just a project name to go look at. (If I was just doing a clean install, I'd just use a new drive :) -- David C. Now that we (in my company) have given up ISDN for good, it is time to start planning for an upgrade of asterisk. With no dependencies on pricey hardware and a test line, a test system has moved within easy reach. Our current production is still running openSUSE 10.2 with asterisk 1.4.23, both of which we would obviously like to upgrade :-) However, it seems asterisk was not built as part of the distro since 10.2? Now I see version 13, 14 and 15 - although only version 14 is currently in network:telephony - 13 is called LTS, and I guess 14 and 15 are two major releases being supported for a while.
