[opensuse] network manager only connects after 2nd or 3rd attempt

Hello, on my laptop with OS 13.2, after booting the network manager shows that it is connected to my wifi, but there is no connection to the internet, i can't even get to the router (192.168...) Then I click on disconnect and then on connect again and it usually works. Sometimes I need a third or a fourth attempt. It looks to me that if "connecting" takes a longer time, then the connection does not work, although shown as connected, and when it goes fast, it works... It does not depend on the distance to the antenna. What could be the reason for this? [opensuse] grep needs to be updated to 2.21

I was using grep to scan names of files in RPM's. Some of the names are in latin1 instead of UTF-8, and the version of grep installed with 13.2 (2.20), gives messages like this: *** file = libvtkUtilitiesPythonInitializer-pv4.2.so.1 grep: invalid UTF-8 byte sequence in input ----- *** file = libvtkPVClientServerCoreCore-pv4.2.so.1 grep: invalid UTF-8 byte sequence in input ----- the 'file' part is my script -- name of the file I am looking for, but grep aborts because of the invalid UTF-8 bytes in the "rpm -ql" output of some package or another. I D/L their current version (2.21) and verified it is fixed; output comes up now, like: *** file = libvtkUtilitiesPythonInitializer-pv4.2.so.1 /home/rpms/13.2/repo/oss/suse/x86_64/paraview-4.2.0-1.2.x86_64.rpm:/usr/lib64/paraview/libvtkUtilitiesPythonInitializer-pv4.2.so.1 /home/rpms/13.2/repo/oss/x64+noarch/paraview-4.2.0-1.2.x86_64.rpm:/usr/lib64/paraview/libvtkUtilitiesPythonInitializer-pv4.2.so.1 ----- *** file = libvtkPVClientServerCoreCore-pv4.2.so.1 /home/rpms/13.2/repo/oss/suse/x86_64/paraview-4.2.0-1.2.x86_64.rpm:/usr/lib64/paraview/libvtkPVClientServerCoreCore-pv4.2.so.1 /home/rpms/13.2/repo/oss/x64+noarch/paraview-4.2.0-1.2.x86_64.rpm:/usr/lib64/paraview/libvtkPVClientServerCoreCore-pv4.2.so.1 I have dumped the names of all the files of all the rpms in 13.2, so if something is "looking" for one of those files, I can scan the distribution for the file. The bug only appears if you use the "-P" option of grep -- which I used. [opensuse] Laptop Fn-Keys not working on SuSE 13.1

Hello, on my old Samsung R70 the hardware keys (brightness up and down, volume up down, laptop LCD on/off and so on) where working on 10.3 and 12.1. 13.1 seems to suppress the keys or is missing important stuff whereas GRUB still lets me decrease or increase LCD brightness with Fn-up and Fn-down. Looking at https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/493519-Unable-to-set-global-shor…! I found out that /sys/devices/platform/samsung/leds is missing. I was not able to find that somewhere. So this page does not help. [opensuse] Keyboard slow after sleep

I have had an issue since 12.2 (Currently on 13.2) whereby I put my computer to sleep (usually accidentally when changing volume) and when I wake it up the keyboard is incredibly slow to respond. When it is woken up the keyboard will not recognise mutliple key presses and if I type normally it misses half the letters because its response time is so long. I can work around this by unplugging and re-connecting the keyboard's USB and then it works fine again. [opensuse] problems in 13.2 sudo & gvim:

tried editing a file as root: sudo gvim /etc/fstab Error detected while processing /usr/share/vim/vim74/menu.vim: line 354: E327: Part of menu-item path is not sub-menu E233: cannot open displayE852: The child process failed to start the GUI Press ENTER or type command to continue Two separate problems -- the menu.vim file is bad. I think I submitted a but on that some time ago, as I seem to remember them asking me if I could test the newer version (couldn't at the time didn't have the new libc installed for the new vim). So it was there in the 13.1 version as well (as tried reinstalling it (the actual file named above is in the vim-data rpm). --- The 2nd problem, sudo seems to have changed some default to not allow a child process to spawn. This meant when I used "sudoedit" to try to edit the sudoer's file: sudoedit /etc/sudoers ^C^C^C^Y^Y^C^Y^C^Y^C It just hung -- couldn't even trace it to find out what it was doing until I sigSTOP'd/CONT'd it: sudo strace -f -p 31351 Process 31351 attached -- just sat there w/no output until I ^c then ^CProcess 31351 detached STOP/CONT gave something: --- SIGCONT {si_signo=SIGCONT, si_code=SI_USER, si_pid=34997, si_uid=0} --- write(5, "\22", 1) = -1 EBADF (Bad file descriptor) rt_sigreturn() = 140695816922856 ---- Good thing I don't need sudoedit to clean things up. Sigh. I already wrote a bug about the 1st item and it didn't get fixed. I don't really feel like writing another. (I find problems like this with some regularity (not that the bugs are usually in anything suse has done... though the thing about 'gvim' invoking some child process to start the GUI... now I don't know -- is that a SuSE-ism?
