[opensuse] 13.1 on ThinkPad X60s

Hi everybody, I'm trying to install openSUSE 13.1 on a ThinkPad X60s (CoreDuo, Intel 950 graphics, Intel 3945ABG wifi, SanDisk 128GB SSD). The installation goes through mostly fine, all hardware is detected correctly but I'm not able to establish a wifi-connection (shows SSIDs fo available APs, but does not get an IP), so I went for cable to finish the installation including all updates. On next reboot, it takes quite long (>60s) to go over the Grub showing the boot menu and the system is not booting into runlevel 5 at all, last message seen is "Started SuSEfirewall2 phase 2". I can change to an other console, after connecting a cable I have working network and I can start XFCE4 manually from there. I can get over the "Started SuSEfirewall2 phase 2" if I switch the network from NetworkManager to ipup, but then I'm not able to get a Wifi connection anymore (only SSIDs viewable, but no IP-connection). Finally the system shutdown takes too long it shows "Started Show Plymouth Power Off Screen" (after pressing ESC) for about 90s and then shuts down very fast. Any ideas for this? [opensuse] opensuse12.3 - cannot make ext drive available to all users

We recently upgraded our office desktop to opensuse 12.3, and have run into a problem with external drives. Our office desktop is used by several people during the day; each user has her/his own account, and users switch between them with the usual ctrl+alt+Fn combination. Most of our data is stored on an external drive. The first user plugs it in, and the last user of the day ejects it and stores it away securely. At least, that's what used to happen with opensuse 12.2. Since moving to 12.3, we find we can't do that. The first user has sole use of the drive in /var/run/media/<username1>, and other users have no access, which means they cannot access or update our data. Is there any (fairly straightforward) way we can restore the previous behaviour, and allow multiple users to access the external drive? [opensuse] What IS wrong with multimedia in 13.1?!

What IS wrong with VLC and k3b in 13.1? I cannot play Blu-ray files using VLC in 13.1 even though I have (as far as I know) all the necessary files installed - yet I can play the same Bd discs (or rather open the Directory-ies or execute individual m2ts files) in openSUsE 12.3. I cannot do a copy of, eg, a CD using k3b - keeps coming up with an error of not being able to open the disc - in 13.1 while k3b in 12.3 happily and without any drama makes a copy of any CD I "throw" at it! 12.3 = OK. 13.1 = crap. Why? I have another thread here which I started days ago, Subject "13.1 + vlc + Blu-ray", but now k3b is involved so I thought it best to start a new thread. MOST frustrating re above simply because both work as expected in 12.3 but suddenly 13.1 goes belly-up re these 2 applications. Anybody suggest, please, steps to take to resolve this situation? I am running oS 11.0 on this box. Why not update? Don't ask. Bad news. [opensuse] can't shutdown my 13.1 system?

I prefer not to. I can troubleshoot this for a day or two before I need to get that desperate. == background My 13.1 based laptop has decided to act up. I don't recall apply "zypper patch" recently, but I might have. Anyway 2 major issues: 1) wireless lan is not connecting. My first attempt at a fix was to reboot. 2) Reboot failed I'm now at the command prompt (X is gone). Startx works, but I just shut it back down so I can focus on the real issue. [opensuse] PXE boot live CD?

Hi everyone, I've got a PXE server set up on my server at home so that I can easily access my diagnostic utilities (memtest86, seatools, etc.) and wanted to try to get a SuSE live CD set up for PXE boot as well. I'm able to boot the installer DVD's fine, but whenever I try to serve up a live CD, it'll boot fine, but partway through it gets a kernel panic with the error "Failed to find MBR identifier!" I've tried several different versions (11.4, 12.2, 12.3, all 32-bit) of the LiveCD's, with the same result. I even tried building a KDE Live image on SuSE Studio, and that didn't work either. Googling the problem doesn't turn up anything specifically for PXE, but there are a lot of posts about having this issue when "burning" the live ISO to a USB stick. However, I didn't see any posts that had a solution. The one thing I found that looked promising was to add the flag "nombridcheck" to the kernel options, but this didn't have any affect. Has anyone got this to work successfully, or know what I could try to make it happy? [opensuse] Help with 13.1 and black screens during install

Hey all, I am trying to install 13.1 on my HP Paviliion P7-1235 desktop with an NVIDIA 500 series video card. I have had 12.3 installed with no problems. The only difference is I started fresh cause I need to dual boot into windows. I get through the initial start screens. It formats the disks and then starts loading the images. Sometime after this it goes to a black screen with text that moves so fast I can't see it. A moment later it goes to a black screen. I know that something is being output cause you can see the screen change when you power it on/off. Then nothing. There does not appear to be any HD light. I did find a comment somewhere that it took 10 minutes before it would proceed. Well I waited in excess of 30 minutes each of the 3 time I tried it. I changed parameters to see if it was something to do with a package selection, but did not see any difference. Once the screen goes dark, there is no HD light . [opensuse] Intermittent sound dropouts with Pulseaudio

This seems to be triggered by other events, such as moving files especially with Digikam, but also with Krusader or Dolphin. Fetching mail with Thunderbird sometimes does it, and sometimes it just happens - - presumably a 'behind the scenes' housekeeping job interferes). My current setup is: openSUSE 12.3 KDE 4.11.4 Music playback through mpd Skype 4.2.0.11 The soundcard is MCP51 High Definition Audio and is integrated on the motherboard. The processor is 2.5GHz quad core, with 8GB RAM. Graphics output is through an nVidia GeForce 9600GT card driven by the proprietary nVidia drivers.
