[opensuse] Is it possible to bisable autodetect feature?

Dear All, Is it possible to disable autodetect feature of OpenSuSE? Sometime I need to replace NIC of machine at remote site. OpenSuSE always detect any "changed" device as new and required to configure, even it is same card that I move to other PCI slot. Thanks for your advise. [opensuse] nm-applet and WindowMaker

When I run nm-applet from a terminal window in WindowMaker, nothing appears to happen. Is it expecting something Gnome/KDE specific like a systray? [opensuse] File download fails in Kopete

[opensuse] non-existant directories in PATH

i just did an install of 64-bit opensuse 11.2 and notice when i examine my PATH in a konsole there are two directories that simply don't exist: /usr/lib/mit/bin /usr/lib/mit/sbin i see no benefit to leaving non-existant directories in PATH, and would like to be rid of them, but have looked many places without finding where they are coming from some of where i have looked: ~/.bashrc ~/.profile /etc/profile.d/profile.sh /etc/bash.bashrc /etc/profile i'd like to fix it in the "right place" so upgrades don't unfix it for me any help will be appreciated sc -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe(a)opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help(a)opensuse.org

[opensuse] What I had to do to get wireless communication

I have a new router (D-Link DIR-615) and a new wireless card (Intel 5300agn) in my notebook machine, and was unable to establish communication between them. After several days of puzzlement, I began to entertain the notion that one or both were defective. In an effort to establish which, I connected an external HD in place of that of the notebook machine, installed WinXP on it, and installed the wireless card's driver on it; the card worked properly, so it was no longer suspect. I thought I would them have to devise a troubleshooting scheme for the router, but when I tried to use the wireless card to go online with my own router, it worked perfectly. I had made no changes whatever in any configuration. [opensuse] Recovered 10.3 system with 11.2 recovery disk, now get -> modprobe: FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.31.5-0.1

Listmates, I recovered my 10.3 system with the 11.2 install dvd. I booted the installed system from the 11.2 disk and then re-installed grub. Now I get the following modprobe error whenever I try to copy files from sdb -> sda: Jan 3 02:06:53 nirvana modprobe: FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.31.5-0.1-default/modules.dep: No such file or directory Jan 3 02:06:53 nirvana modprobe: FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.31.5-0.1-default/modules.dep: No such file or directory Somewhere when I installed grub, some file got imprinted with the 11.2 kernel information 'even though' I had booted my 10.3 install from the 11.2 dvd 'before' I reinstalled grub. I have grepped through /etc and /boot looking for the 2.6.31 kernel information, but I'm drawing blanks. What file did this information get stored in?? How do I fix it? Reinstall grub again?? Something else? Before I go trying to fix this one, I would like to understand what it is I'm fixing before I go reinstalling bootloaders, etc... I'm almost positive it is something to do with the current bootloader install on /sdb (the good disk of the raid set). Currently, I have what may/may-not be the old first disk of the raid set (sda) mounted under /mnt/sda (the complete filesystem / with /home mounted as /mnt/sda/home and boot mounted as /mnt/sda/boot). I would like to try a few block copies to the drive and see if it throws any errors. However, I can't copy anything to it due to the weird 11.2 kernel module dependency that has appeared on my 10.3 system. What say the gurus on this situation? [opensuse] recover SD card partition
