[opensuse] USB support in VirtualBox OSE

Hi all, I can't get to set USB in VirtualBox OSE? Is it possible at all? In the Settings USB is greyed out. I think I read once that USB support is one of the differences between the the OSE and PUEL versions of VBox. But I could not get the latter to work at all. On 192.168.2.18, issue the command "netstat -anu | grep 514". It should output the line udp 0 0 0.0.0.0:514 0.0.0.0:* (The IP address may be 192.168.2.18 instead of 0.0.0.0.) If not, the configuration issue is with your syslog server, not with your BigBoy client. If yes, I'd use nmap to see if BigBoy can reach the 514 udp port on logserver. Installing the PUEL version on opensuse is possible, but much harder to do. [opensuse] ksplash themes

I want to install a new splash screen: Kmenu>system settings>General>appearence>splash screen>get new themes (phew, found it) and click install on one I like. It downloads and installs and there is a red cross in the unistall check box where the green tick was before. How do I install it? What is it called and where does it go after it has downloaded? It does not appear in the Manager for Splash Screen Themes. I was looking in my home folder under downloads. But nada.. kde 4.3.4 from the update instlaled from what was available for update (the bit in blue brackets in Yast>right click>install if newer version available) from the the KDE43 repo today. I feel like Kerninghan and DMR trying to find out where the output of hello world went. [opensuse] KDE 4.3.4 and openSUSE 11.2

Hi, I have opensuse 11.2 and used the 1-click-install of kde 4.3.4 as described on http://de.opensuse.org/KDE/KDE4 Some base packages from 4.3.4 are installed then but most of the packages remain on 4.3.1 I have issued 'zypper up -t package' but this did not work. I think there is a problem with the change of the vendor. The packages from 11.2 habe openSUSE as vendor and the packages from KDE:KDE4:STABLE:Desktop have an obs string as vendor. Zypper does not automatically change the vender. How can I easily get all packages upgraded to 4.3.4? [opensuse] Rsync daemon dies every hour. Why?

Can anyone tell me why rsyncd won't stay up all the time? Syslog is great for debugging! Anyway, I altered the syslog-ng config by enabling the two lines and altering the IP address so I now have # # Enable this and adopt IP to send log messages to a log server. # destination logserver { udp("192.168.2.18" port(514)); }; log { source(src); destination(logserver); }; That's the IP address of my log server on the lcoal network and I have a screen devoted to tailing though that with pretty colourization ... The remote syslog server machine is running Mandriva and no I'm not going to convert it to OpenSuse just to get syslog working. It handles other logs & sources OK. What now? [opensuse] openSUSE 11.2 YaST - Add Software Repository

Dear all, i have followed the instruction at http://en.opensuse.org/Creating_YaST_Installation_Sources Creating_YaST_Installation_Sources and created a repomd/rpm md/YUM Sources using the createrepo command. the repo url is http://192.168.137.128/suse_repo/ but when i try to add this repo in the YaST - Software Repositories, there is always a connection time out. (But i can access the repo thru browser so i think that should not be a network problem). and i found that it try to get the ~/media.1/products from my repo. but according to http://en.opensuse.org/Creating_YaST_Installation_Sources Creating_YaST_Installation_Sources , my repo is NOT a "real" YaST repository. and seems the YaST does not know that is a repomd/rpm md/YUM Sources. How could i solve the problem. Thanks. [opensuse] Sound-config files

Hi, I would like to know where the configuation-files for the sound system are stored. My problem : in OS 11.2/KDE I can't configure my sound card to use my 4 speakers, while in Gnome it's very easy to do. I do have other problems with my sound-setup but I'm going step by step. B.T.W. how can one install Gnome and KDE on the same installation ? Is there a "meta"-package to select ? I just read in another thread it should be possible, but I didn't search for it yet as I don't have the system at hand. Now that system has a triple boot : 10.1, 11.2/KDE and 11.2/Gnome.
