[opensuse] Bug - PHP-5.2.5 + fcgi

Hi, [I know there's a bugtracker. I tried to report this there. Found out you need a login. Tried to register - filled out all fields on the registration form. Result was a blank page with a novell logo. Great. So I'm posting here now - please reply off-list.] I'm running a server with OpenSUSE-10.3 (32bit x86) installed from http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:10.3/standard/. I've setup apache2 + php5 + mod_fcgid to run a chrooted PHP application. This has been working flawlessly for about 2 months now. Yesterday I updated the system using you. Among other (unrelated) things PHP was upgraded to 5.2.5-8.1. Since then, users have been seeing 500 errors occasionally. The logfiles contain messages like these: [Wed Jan 02 22:53:30 2008] [warn] (104)Connection reset by peer: mod_fcgid: read data from fastcgi server error. [Wed Jan 02 22:53:30 2008] [warn] (104)Connection reset by peer: mod_fcgid: ap_pass_brigade failed in handle_request function [Wed Jan 02 22:53:37 2008] [notice] mod_fcgid: process /chroots/php/cgi/php-wrapper.cgi(31170) exit(communication error), terminated by calling exit(), return code: 0 The errors occur without significant delay, sometimes in the middle of a page. Therefore I don't think timeout settings are a problem. Downgrading to php-5.2.4 got rid of the errors. Nothing else was changed. [opensuse] Xnest and 10.0 repository

hi folks, Xnest is badly broken in 10.0 and 10.1--- font problems, and other stuff like xterm not working, etc. The bugs are all reported, and I assumed fixed. I updated the Xnest rpm from ftp.suse.com for opensuse 10.0 6.8.2.100.13 and still have the same problems with Xnest... I think I probably need to update all of Xorg. (1) Can anyone confirm that the Xnest problems are fixed in the lastest xorg packages for 10.0 ? uh, will updating Xorg (complete) fix these issues? (2) Is Xnest working fine in 10.3 ? [opensuse] create a local opensuse updates mirror

Hi everyone. Can somebody point me in how to create a local opensuse updates mirror. I tried using rsync without success. rsync -avzP --delete --exclude rpm/x86_64/ --exclude rpm/src/ --exclude rpm/ppc/ rsync.opensuse.org::opensuse-updates/10.3/ /var/ftp/mirrors/opensuse/10.3/opensuse-updates also this: rsync -av --exclude rpm/x86_64/ --exclude rpm/src/ --exclude rpm/ppc/ rsync.opensuse.org::opensuse-updates/10.3/ /var/ftp/mirrors/opensuse/10.3/opensuse-updates When the process finish, i get 58 of "updates" . [opensuse] Question about VMWare

On my laptop, I currently have a dual boot Windows/OpenSuse 10.3 setup. I have installed VMWare Server. This laptop is a Compaq X1000, and comes with a hidden partition and XP Home install disks. I'd like to get rid of the XP and hidden partitions, and just have XP installed in VMWare. The question is whether I can just copy my whole XP partition or do I need to install XP Home in the VMWare Server. Are there other issues caused by this configuration I should be aware of? [opensuse] Problem Running Java with Firefox

Hi, I'm using openSUSE 10.3, kernel 2.6.22, Firefox 2.0.0.10, and java-1_5_0-sun-1.5.0_update13-0.5 I have a problem getting Java applets to run in my Firefox. There is a symbolic link to the Java plugin for the Firefox browser located in /usr/lib/browser-plugins/javaplugin.so This links to /etc/alternatives/javaplugin which is a symbolic link to /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun-1.5.0_update13-sr2/jre/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so This plugin didn't work. Although about:plugins show that the Java installation is working for Firefox, visiting Java's page or any page with a Java applet does not work correctly. So what I did was to create a link /usr/lib/firefox/plugins/libjavaplugin_oji.so to the same file as above. about:plugins again showed that the plugin is installed. Once again, I tried the applet in http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp but it is still not working. I've googled for help but the results came back with making a symbolic link which I've already done. When you set up bridging for VirtualBox, it creates a virtual NIC that is "attached" to the physical one used by the host OS. If your host OS has an eth0, your virtual NIC will be either eth0:0 or eth0:1. I can't remember which. The only reason you might want or need a second NIC would be if the guest OS is going to be hosting some application that is going to require heavy I/O that will saturate the ethernet interface and cause the network connection to become a serious bottleneck.
