faking a cdrom

Dear all, Here is a more challenging question for the technically minded out there... Matlab requires its docs cd in the drive before it runs. this is rather inconvenient as i can't play music while working and also it slows it down because it checks for any help on the cd all the time. so the question is: is there any way to have a copy of the cd on the hard drive mounted as a cdrom - somehow.?.. i'm running suse 8.2/xd2 thanks, j. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Odd behaviour in Konq

Stumbled on this a couple of times this evening... wondering if anyone else has seen this. I'm doing some disk cleanup, and burning a bunch of video to CDROM. Every once in a while Konqueror shows that I have 15,000+TB of files in my video directory. Now I would love to have a drive that actually could hold 15,000 Terabytes of data, but... in reality I know it's only a 40Gig drive. If I click the reload button it recalculates the total file size correctly. I go about burning more video to CD, and deleting the ones that are complete... pretty soon I have a few thousand Terabytes of data again. Odd... apparently not harmful, but... odd. Has anyone else observed this? Or have I just found a unique way to bend space-time? BTW, it's SuSE8.2 on 40Gig drive, Athalon 1Ghz, 704MB RAM. C.

Dear my friends.... Anybody use octave (http://www.octave.org)? I tried to compile it but none of the versions works on SuSE Linux 8.2 . I am using SuSE 8.2 . I need this kind of software to do my research for my study. Kalamaris is still far than eligible to be used in works. I think octave is the best for my demand till now. Can't get my Palm to connect

Greetings, I'm trying to get my Sony Clié handheld to connect with my SuSe system. ldconfig -v | less

Hey Group; I ran "ldconfig -v | less" as a normal house keeping function. It is reporting several (3) bad symlinks to libraries /usr/lib/*Plugin-2.1.56.so. A search of the base name shows no newer file to symlink to. Likely not a real problem. However, is this a dependency.rpm I missed or a oversite problem. Digital camera on Suse 8.1?

Hi, I am running Suse 8.1. I am trying to download pictures from my digital camera on to the pc and I am unable to do so. It worked for me before. When I plugin the USB cable, an icon used to appear on the desktop and I could download the pictures clicking on that. Now, I dont see any icon. If I manually browse "camera:/" in konquerer, it displays "bad parameters". I can't figure out what is wrong. I looked at the /etc/fstab, it adds the following entry when the camera is plugged in through usb. /dev/sda1 /media/sda1 auto noauto,user,exec 0 0 #HOTPLUG B3Fu.4Qjvba2nBh1 But I still dont see any contents under /media/sda1. I think, this problem started when I "unmounted" the already "unmounted" /dev/sda1. I am NOT sure, though. I did that because, the mounted directory was NOT showing pictures that were on the camera but showing pictures that were NOT there on the camera (i mean it was showing deleted pictures)!! Strange as it may sound, I could not figure out that. Some type of caching?? Frustrated, I dont know what I did at that point. From then on, I have this problem. I appreciate any help. Error with java plugin and Netscape 7.1

Hi, I just download Netscape 7.1 and Java 1.4.2 and install them. I made the link from the java plugin "/usr/lib/j2sdk1.4.2/jre/plugin/i386/ns610/libjavaplugin_oji.so" to the netscape plugins directory and run netscape. I get the following error: INTERNAL ERROR on Browser End: No manager for initializing factory? System error?:: Success If i link java 1.3.1 plugin the error is diferent: LoadPlugin: failed to initialize shared library /usr/lib/jdk1.3.1/jre/plugin/i386/ns600/libjavaplugin_oji.so [/usr/lib/jdk1.3.1/jre/plugin/i386/ns600/libjavaplugin_oji.so: undefined symbol: __vt_17nsGetServiceByCID] Can anyone help me?
