kdm[5349]: Server unexpectedly died

If I set the sysconfig to load the XDM login screen, it works, but if I set it back to KDM, it does not work. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I've asked about this before, but most people offer a solution dealing with apsfilter, which I am not using. I'm absolutely losing my mind over this. PLEASE HELP. It's that oh-so-common problem of the extra form feed causing an unwanted blank page at the end of every print job. SuSE's Support database mentions this problem, but for 8.0 all it says is "From SuSE Linux 8.0 on, configure the print queue without "formfeed" by making sure there is no "formfeed" set for the queue in /etc/printcap. The output of man 5 printcap displays all the possibilities available for your spooler (lprng, lprold, plp) to prevent a "formfeed" in a queue." This doesn't help me, as I've looked at man 5 printcap and don't get it. http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/ke_netprint-trouble.html Here's my info: HP Laserjet 5L configured with yast2 to use ljet4 driver. Everything prints wonderfully, and from the Suse 8.0 "server" that it is attached to, there is NO extra form feed at the end. The blank page shows up ONLY when clients (be they Win or Lin) print (via samba). I accepted all the defaults from Yast2 and it chose lpdfilter for me. I read online about adding sf to suppress form feeds, but when lpd was restarted it said to use ff_separator instead. Neither works. Also, my printer can print at 300dpi or 600dpi and I have it named lp and printer1 respectively to allow me to print at either resolution. I use printer1 almost exclusively, though. ttf in so52 for spreadsheet but not writer in SuSE 8?

I used fetchmsttfonts. Now when I run Star Office 5.2 I get access to ttf in the spreadsheet modul but not when I run Starwrtier part of Star Office. Any clues, why one and not the other? They appear in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/ when I run the kcontrol font installer. Nev

Hi guys After failed to reconfigure my system due to red-carpets installations i reinstalled the whole system with KDE with SO default. When i was installing I pulled the mouse from usb and touchpad start working, later on i tried to activate mouse it didn't work. second installation this time i put the mouse back, but this time touchpad didn't work. And i reinstalled and now touchpad works but mouse not. I tried (ps/2,logitech,) from yast and nothing happened. My mouse is Logitec with two button and a wheel on top and it is connected to machine through usb hub. How and where could i fix this "mouse" before the cat eat it (: (:->? Problem with two network interface cards (NIC)

Hi, I run SuSE Linux 7.3, kernel 2.4.10 - 4GB on my PC. When I install a second NIC (eth1), then eth0 will not take/accept any IP address from the DHCP server at my ISP. I connect to the Internet over a cablemodem. As soon as I remove the second NIC from the PC, eth0 works again properly. I have tried to configure the NICs with Yast2 and to edit the configuration files by hand. No luck. I have no problem to run the same two NICs on the same PC when I run Windows 2000 Pro (Dual boot). The two NICs are both 3Com Etherlink XL PCI Combo (3C900-Combo). I have never seen any error message. There is no IRQ conflict. Anyone with a good idea? Thank you for your time. Dan thank you very much for your help. But i have another question.i forget to mention that i am not that much familiar with linux (newbie) . Mozilla Hosed After Update

This afternoon I was searching the SuSE download site and came across the patch for Mozilla .98. Wanting to keep things current (before I realized at mozilla.org that .99 is out!) I downloaded and tried to freshen my install. Now when I launch M, I get a window with nothing in it. I can't do anything other than admire the empty window and close it. Doesn't give me anything that resembles a browser. Any ideas for a newbie down on his luck? Cary D. Beuershausen codejunkie(a)attbi.com Air conditioners and computers are alike. How to rebuild/reinstall sound modules after kernel recompile?

Everything is fine except sound. When alsa tries to start I get the following error: jw:~ # rcalsasound start Starting sound driver: cs4236modprobe: Can't locate module snd-cs4236 Ok, so digging around shows that the following are no longer existant: failed /lib/modules/2.4.18-4GB/kernel/sound/isa/cs423x/snd-cs4236-lib.o /lib/modules/2.4.18-4GB/kernel/sound/isa/cs423x/snd-cs4236.o According to RPM, they are owned by k_deflt-2.4.18-58 Which to me would indicate that I had left some step out of the re-compiling process. Based on other things I saw I the list I let the following run while I went to lunch: make cloneconfig make dep make clean && make bzImage && make dep clean bzImage && make modules && make bzlilo && make modules_install Ran lilo, rebooted, everythign as expected except the sound drivers. Now, actually, the entire sound directory is missing: jw@jw:~> ls /lib/modules/2.4.18-4GB/kernel/ abi arch drivers fs net So what did I skip? What do I have to do to build && install the sound modules?
