Trouble with LSI on SMP machine with SuSE 8.1

Hello All, I have a ftp version 8.1 has installed on SMP machine with LSI I`ve tried update mkinitrd script and I`ve run it, but the system don`t boot anyway. Can anybody help me? Sincerely yours, Sergey.

Firewire Drive

A firewire PCI host adapter is attached to a PC running SuSE 8.1. The controller has been detected by SuSE. An Iomega Perless firewire drive is attached to the controller but cannot be accessed. During the boot process, the lights flash and stay on while the PC is switched. On another PC, which is a Toshiba laptop, with a PCMCIA firewire adapter the drive is automatically recognised and ready for use using Linux. Can anyone offer any assistance to install the drive on the first PC?

SuSE 8.1 YOU Not working Err: autoyast2-9032

Just installed 8.1. Online update did not work at first, so changed /etc/wgetrc to passive ftp. YOU picked up the YOU update and installed. Went back into YOU to get the rest of the updates, and after selecting a ftp server and hitting next, after a few moments, I get YOU pukes, and I get the following error: Err: autoyast2-9032 I've done everything the SDB suggested, copying files into SelDB and ProdDB, etc. Nothing works. qt bindings crocked

I'm having some problems with my python qt bindings setup on SuSE 8.1 A python program like this import sys from qt import * # create application object myApp = QApplication(sys.argv) segfaults when it gets to creating the QApplication. I have qt 2.3.2 and qt 3.0.5 installed. There is a qt2 symlink and a qt3 symlink. I'm using Python 2.2.1 Essentially my setup is an out-of-the-box clean install of SuSE 8.1 - I selected python and the qt bindings using YAST2, so it should all "just work". Am I missing something like a QTDIR environment variable? I've tried exporting both QTDIR as /usr/lib/qt2 and QTDIR as /usr/lib/qt3. I get the same seg fault. Or is it some problem with versions of qt? Any suggestions? I should also point out that there is something fishy about my qt environment generally as programs like Knights find unresolved library calls at runtime. The rpm of Knights 0.5.6 for SuSE 8.0 from the Knights website gives the following runtime error : knights: relocation error: knights: undefined symbol: __ti7QWidget In the same way, previously a previously working version of Quanta Gold also give runtime errors. I'm currently playing with playing with an old Toshiba Satalite Pro 480 CDT (233 MHz Pentium with 64 MB Ram). KDE3 will run but there's so much swapping that it's not viable. icewm is sort of OK, but still sluggish. I might have some spare RAM chips that could work in the 386. Let me know what your PC needs and I'll have a look. Don't know why Linux doesn't recognise your CDROM, I've used a variety of CDROMs ranging from old 8x drives to modern 56x units without any problems. Enybody else any suggestions? Ken Hough

can't get 100mb eth0 to work

I have a problem with my home network. It is working quite well with a Realtek 8029card/hub combo, but I only get 10mb. The other boxes on the network have 100 mb ethernet, but to get them to work, I have to force 10 mb, or nothing works. I've tried a Realtek 8039, a 3Com, the Via-rhine integrated in my motherboard, and a Myson Surecom EP-320x-s, they are all recognized and installed in SuSE 8.1, I can ping the server, but no other computer on the network. Zip drives again

Hi, Has anybody managed to convince their zip drive to use the first primary partition under 8.1 ? And if so how ? I have tried everything I could find and it still stubbornly refuses to use anything but the fourth partition . Any help would be appreciated . Mike Ayers

Is Panasonic LC5 supported?

Does anyone here know if the Panasonic LC5 digital camera will work with linux? I've asked on a digital photo site (www.dpreview.com), asked panasonic and searched google. Panasonic said it won't but can be used fas USB storage. Where to find "unique_key" for hardware.

I have a belkin "nostromo - N50" gamepad. I have been playing around with an open source dirver that is being developed by a couple of people from belken. At on point it "kinda" worked but everything in the Makefile is commented out and one has to guess about which features/commands to uncomment - hence why it "kinda" worked. So, after trying a few things it is apparent the it most likely has been registered more then once and may very well be conflicting with itself. I have noticed in the Hardware info page of YaST CC the it has both an old_unique_key and a Unique_key. I had to delete a unique key before to get my sound card to re-install back in SuSE 7.x. So I'm thinking that it might be worth removing this key and starting over again - but I can't remember where these keys are kept. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Playing DVDs

I've been trying to play DVDs on my SuSE 8.1 box with only partial success. Using either MPlayer or Xine, I can play DVDs but the playback is very jerky. Playing DVDs on the same box (Athlon 1.2 GHz, GeForce2 MX/400) under Windows is smooth, so there is definitely some improvement possible. One possibility that occurred to me is DMA settings for the DVD drive. However, under SuSE 8.1, it's running as SCSI emulation. How do I check whether DMA is enabled - there's no listing under the DMA tool for the emulated drives. What else should I look at, or do I resign myself to not watching DVDs under Linux?
