ip=dchp. Anyone using this?

Hi, I've been trying to make a boot disk for my cable modem to be able to install SuSE from the ftp site. As there seems to be no support for dhcp in the install program itself, I've had the useful idea (?) of getting the kernel to do this beforehand. However, I've had little luck in getting it to work. I supply the boot param ip=dhcp and the kernel starts the lookup. This then just times out and dies. eth0: Setting half-duplex based on auto-negotiated partner ability 0000. Sending DHCP requests .,??..... timed out! IP-Config: Reopening network devices... IP-Config: Complete: device=eth0, addr=213.105.119.110, mask=255.255.255.0, gw=213.105.119.254, host=213.105.119.110, domain=, nis-domain=(none), bootserver=0.0.0.0, rootserver=0.0.0.0, rootpath= A little further on the first line is repeated, but with no following lines. My question is, will the dhcp do this? Or is it designed soley for use with diskless machines? And if it should work, does anyone have anything like this working? xmms with arts

Hi, Anyone know what happened to the arts plugin for xmms? I'd prefer xmms for it's looks, but can't get it to co-exist with the kde arts sound stuff. There's a link to the plugin on the xmms site, but it's broken. If anyone has the tar of the source could they mail me it? Or post the url to it. How to automaticaly "xhost localhost"?

I'd like to set my system up so that I don't need to run xhost localhost When I'm su'ing in a term. The xhost man page mentions a file called /etc/X*.hosts but doesn't go into any detail about how to use it. Could anyone enlighten me? Thanks, David A. Riggs

Rescue CD

2.2.18-SMP kernel source

Hi. I'm trying to find the source code for my currently installed kernel. I installed the 2.2.18-SMP kernel off SuSE 7.1 installation CD and have never made any changes to it. 'aout' returns '2.2.18-SMP' as expected. I was expecting to find a '/usr/src/linux-2.2.18-SMP' directory, or maybe a '/usr/src/linux-2.2.18' directory with a .config file for SMP. Instead I found the '/usr/src/linux' link pointing to '/usr/src/linux-2.4.0.SuSE'. There was a '/usr/src/linux-2.2.18' directory but there were only a few files in it. Is there a 2.2.18-SMP source package on the installation CD somewhere? Or does the 2.2.18-SMP kernel use the same source as 2.2.18? And idea why '/usr/src/linux' was pointing to '/usr/src/linux-2.4.0.SuSE'?
