[SLE] better fonts for netscape

I often hear people complain about the terrible fonts for netscape and then the reply is (often enough) to use true-type fonts instead. In case you do not want true-type fonts though, there is an excellent set of fonts built specifically for Netscape that intentionally mimic the fonts that Netscape for windows uses. The set of fonts includes Times, Helvetica and Courier. [SLE] mount and xdm

From time to time i can't mount floppies (as a regular user) because something (yast?? suseconfig??) is removing the suid bit from mount. Who is doing it and how can i stop him doing it? (i have security setting on secure and i would prefer to leave it that way) How can i allow remote users login to the server through X (xdm) but without starting xfree on the machine. I mean i want users to login through X remotely but not locally. [SLE] Kernel Compile Script (repost)

After a fresh install of 6.3 the script "susewmif kernel en" that I used in 6.2 no longer works. This script enabled me to compile a kernel while logged in as a user. (root password required). It also gave me the luxury of not having to manually enter the "make dep clean bzImage..." command after doing a make xconfig. Using the script as a normal user would put me into what I got as root doing "make xconfig". Then after changing the configuration file and saving it, it would then put me into another GUI to let me do what ever make I required. Then after the compiles were all finished it would put me in a mode where I could search the output of all the compiles for errors or whatever. Very nice script. On 6.2 it was even provided in KDE. SuSE/System tools/Compile kernel. Well needless to say neither myself nor anyone else I know that has gone to 6.3 can get this to work. What follows is the output from the command "susewmif kernel en". First from my 6.2 box at work then my 6.3 box at home. Any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated. (If this appears twice, my apologies... I sent it before but have not seen it in list traffic.) I am attemping to integrate a couple of SuSE linux boxes (6.3) into a cluster of machines which interoperate with yp maps and utilize automount. ypcat auto.home returns the appropriate information. portmap is in hosts.allow. Here are my auto.* files: auto.master /home /etc/auto.home auto.home +auto.home cd -fstype=iso9660,ro :/dev/cdrom floppy -fstype=auto :/dev/fd0 /etc/rc.d/autofs status returns the following: Checking for service autofs: OK Configured Mount Points: - - ------------------------ automount -t 300 /home file /etc/auto.home automount -t 300 /home yp auto.home nobrowse Active Mount Points: - - -------------------- automount -t 300 /home file /etc/auto.home (I believe there should be "yp" in there instead of/in addition to "file".) /var/log/messages has only: Mar 30 11:52:15 sevengill automount[155]: attempting to mount entry /home/tobkin Mar 30 11:52:15 sevengill automount[289]: lookup(file): looking up tobkin Mar 30 11:52:15 sevengill automount[289]: lookup(file): lookup for tobkin failed for errors. I believe this means that the automounter is not seeing the yp auto.home map. I have also tried auto.master /home auto.home Can anyone tell me what magic I'm missing? sounds like a reasonable group project. I imagine you can use anythign to establishthe ppp connection. there are a few ways I think. Hi, Not stictly a SUSE issue but I have been considering using emacs for mail etc etc as I spend much of my time in it. Two questions really. 1) Any thoughts on emacs v xemacs 2) How easy (am an relative newbie) is it to configure mail for these. Am currently using kmail, via smtp. [SLE] static linking trouble

Hi, I am trying to perform a static link, so that I can send an executable to people who do not have some libraries (Motif in this very case). I've never done that before, and adding the -static option does not work : a file onto the generated executable shows that it's dynamically linked attemp to run on a non Motif system say that shared lib libXm.so cannot be loaded Sorry to be a pain, as this is likely to be straighforward, but I'm stuck and lost. Any help will be greatly appreciated. This has nothing to do with SuSE, directly, however, I think it's important that everyone here knows what Corel is "up to." Their soon-to-be-released Office 20000 Suite is NOT a native Linux Suite, and in fact, the code was NOT ported to Linux. It's a modified 'Bloze version (all versions now have common code) that runs under Wine, which is shipped WITH the Suite. Now, for some this is fine...not a problem. I guess for me, I object to Corel's giving all this "lip service" to supporting Linux, and producing a LINUX VERSION of it's office suite, then having to read a review of the product to find out that it's NOT Linux code at all.
