Hi, this bug has been fixed and an update should be available on ftp.suse.com soon. We will also write an SDB article about this. This bug was fixed with disabling PAM Support of the Xwrapper program. In New Zealand, SuSE 6.2 international has all the nice things on it (part of the reason I went away from Red Hat), they must have imported from Europe. The price incidentally was the equivalent of what SusE sells it for in Germany. Anything from the States almost certainly is not going to have the crypto things included. The problem might be that there is no good/useful/cheap/all-of-the-above international mail order place in Europe, though I don't know. Also, check whether any Canadian resellers have imported from the USA - bad luck for your crypto things in that case too. On the odd chance that buying from New Zealand is actually cheaper for you, I got it from http://www.drfloppy.co.nz/ for NZ$104.95. They are one of the two resellers listed on SuSE's web page. /etc/conf.modules is a `master file' of sorts. The kernel depends on this being edited properly for any modules to load. It's not a complicated file, it's just large. Last I checked, Hubert did a wonderful job of commenting it so that anyone can read what any section does. I use pico as an editor at the prompt, but kwrite or kedit under X/KDE might be a better way to look at such a large file. [SLE] Kernel "Panic"

Originally, I had been using a boot disk for Linux. Then, I set up LILO to boot up Linux and Win98, each on a separate HDD. I needed to reinstall Win98, so it overwrote the MBR and LILO. Win98 boots up OK, but I'm lost on how to access Linux. I tried using the boot floppy for my configuration, but it appears that some mount points may have changed, because the boot process stops with a "kernel panic...". My SuSE original boot disk is bad (see other posting!), so I'm trying to figure how to fix this, rather than reinstalling SuSE. I do not have a rescue disk (ugh!). I could reload SuSE and set it up in a couple of hours, but it would be an learning exercise for me to fix the problem, if at all possible. Any thoughts? Stanley C. Rogacki, P.E. Funny how everyone assumes I am in the US. I am in Canada and Chumbo and all the wonderful online shopping centres don't have a clue as to how to run an international store. They do not ship to Canada the last I looked. The only place I found that was going to ship to me was charging immense shipping costs even though it doesn't cost them much more to do so. Getting off topic, but "online stores" need to realize that the internet is not run solely in the US. Other people see it too. This has always been a pet-peave of mine. --- "Ian F. [SLE] ATAPI CD-WRITER

Hey, I finally recompiled my kernel, and my drives are recognized by SCSI emulation when I boot (I had some problems with recompiling the kernel...it got too big and the xconfig utilitie didn't install the kernel. I finally used the commands "make bzImage" and "make zlilo", result: everything works fine!). Now I have a problem with xcdroast. After I setup the program and swith to "Copy Data CD" the program just closes. It can't be the hardware, because while I'm sending this mail, I'm also writing a CD with KreateCD... What am I doing wrong this time? [SLE] Routing table

Scenario: I have set Port Sentry up to determine when I am being scanned (I find it more sensitive to some scans than scanlogd). In addition to logging the port scan, it is set up to drop the route between myself and the scanner via "/sbin/route add -host [IP address] reject". I have no problem with this, -except-, when I go to add the route again (as I had to do recently with my ISP when they scanned this IP block for open servers), I get a double entry in the routing table (see below). I re-add the address using route add -host [IP Address] eth0 and it is added back to the table and mark as being up and accessable. However, the original rejected route is still there. When I go to delete this, it deletes the address I just entered, and then give an error if I attempt to delete it again. This is not causing any problems, but I would like to remove the duplicate entries.
