Sir, You might want to look into the command clock. (Especially the -w option. I believe it's the one that writes the time back to the BIOS clock) Let me know if it works. [SLE] XCDRoast and CD Writers

Hi I am new to Linux and have recently chosen to use Linux Mandrake 6. I was using SUSE but found the Mandrake distribution to be easier for a beginner. My question concerns the XCDRoast package and my Sony CD-RW CRX100E IDE CD Writer. When I look at the SCSI/IDE -info I am shown both my TEAC CD-ROM and my Sony CD Writer. But when I setup XCDRoast I don't have the option of selecting the Sony CD Writer as the Writing Device. I searched the Red Hat site and from what I could understand I have to build some sort of IDE CD Writer capability into the Kernel. My problem is that as I am fairly new to Linux and am unsure on how to do this. I also found out that it is probably beneficial to setup all of my devices as SCSI devices but due to having a mixed IDE and SCSI system to load these devices as modules as and when needed. If anybody could give me some advise on both how to add my CD Writer to the kernel and how to get it working with CDRRoast I would ber very grateful. Hi, I spent a major portion of today getting the conventional scripts to run. The one big thing I noticed is when running the script, pppd is set suid root. This allows it to really grab the serial line. I have it working. It isn't too bad, it's just that there is no input to the terminal if it dosn't work, like "busy", no dialtone" etc. But you can tell by the modem sound. Root needs to check /var/log/messages to see what happened. If anyone has a chat script that echos error messages and connect messages to the screen, please post or send it. I am pleased because this is the first time I've been able to connect with the script method using pap. One big difference is for the scripts, the username and secret need to be enclosed in " " marks, where wvdial dosn't do that. As far as wvdial goes, I have taken to getting rid of the dialout group, and just using uucp as the "dialout" group. I will try making wvdial chown root:uucp, and also try setting the suid bit on wvdial, mimicking pppd ownership, and see if that holds the serial line better. Also the suse docs in /usr/doc/wvdial says you should create a default /etc/ppp/options file as: lock debug Maybe that will help lock the modem for wvdial. I am running version 1.40 and one tip is after you compile it, do a "strip wvdial" . Hi, 1. I'm afraid the answer will be no: Can WvDial be used to automatically create a dial up connection whenever Netscape is started? Probably I'll have to write a shell script that first starts up WvDial and then starts up Netscape? 2. How do I tell WvDial to disconnect? Or better, once a connection is established, how do I disconnect it? 3. When I disconnect by killing the ppp process, WvDial immediately dials up again. How do I tell WvDial to please not do that? 4. How do I tell WvDial to go back to sleep (or remove itself from memory) short of killing the process? [SLE] Sendmail 8.10?

Hi, after fixing me access to the comp.mail.sendmail to get more on my sendmail problem exposed here earlier I have come to understand this a quite common problem for servers that offers virtual domains with also mail (smtp and pop3)and the problem is (at least somewhat) taken care of in sendmail 8.10 (now beta 6). So what I like to ask about now is if someone have a rpm to contrib? or SuSE when can we expect an "offical" rmp for sendmail 8.10? Unfortunately this is a too big project for me to get into as I knows too little about creating rpm's and my day already is overbooked with work. So anyone ouththere skilled on this and ahead? An other short on this as well; Does the Yast created sendmail.cf in 6.2 activate any of the masqurade features by default? [SLE] Netscape 4.7 and other users

Hi all I just created other users on my SuSE 6.2 with YaST for my family members. Unfortunately, they are not able to run Netscape from they own sessions.... I try to run the same exec files from communicator with their username, but it never works. I get the message: :Bus error and it hangs. What can I do? [SLE] WVDIAL timeouts

Hello. This is Gary in Spanaway, WA. I am trying to set up a full time internet to amateur radio TCPIP gateway using Suse Linux v6.2. I am using WVDIAL on a full-time PPP dialup link with my local ISP, with a fixed IP address. Although WVDIAL configured easily, thus taking all of the headaches out of getting PPP running, I am plagued by a chronic timeout problem. After the link is established and I am logged onto my ISP, everything works well for 20-30 minutes. Then I get an error message saying that "PPP has died" and I try to redial and re-establish the link... That happens for awhile, until I get a message from WVDIAL saying that the modem is not responding.... I would like to think that the timeout is not a matter of the ISP dumping me, as I can stay connected for days or weeks with my Winders-98 or Winders-2000 Beta-RC2 machines, without a problem.... Somehow I think there is a need to play with the configuration of WVDIAL somehow, but so far I cannot seem to find out what that entails. Can someone give some advice? I would hope that it would be a simple matter of setting a timer or some other flag.... Oh yes, btw, I am using a US Robotics 56K Sportster modem (external), and get very good connects to my ISP in v.90 mode (48K to 53,333K). I just wish I could stay connected for extended periods of time without having to redial or the modem die on me... Now to really confuse things... I have tried a second 56K modem of different manufacture, and it does exactly the same things as described above.... Your suggestions and comments would be appreciated. Thanks....
