Hi !
I get the following error when i try to enable telnet.
/etc/init.d/xinetd start inetd Starting INET services. (xinetd) failed
My system is in the local office network and i need telnet access to my system enabled. please advice on this..
--> Is the telnet server package installed? "rpm -q telnet-server" should show you the version. If you need local access only, you can change /etc/xinetd.conf to make xinetd listen on the internal interface only. Next you have to edit /etc/xinet.d/telnet to enable the telnet server. Make sure that the path mentioned as "server" points to the right place. Then restart xinetd by "/usr/sbin/rcxinetd restart". You have been advised about the security implications of running a telnet server. Good luck!
