Hi,
How secure is rsync for use over the internet. Does anybody have any suggestions? I would regard is as very secure -- if you use SSH to tunnel the data. For RSH it is of cause rather insecure. If you have a RSYNC server it is also insecure. (But nice if you want to distribute software to anyone, Trolltech (Qt) did something like that for the beta.)
Have a look at the man page rsync(1): You can also specify an alternative to rsh, by either using the -e command line option, or by setting the RSYNC_RSH environment variable. One common substitute is to use ssh, which offers a high degree of security. Note that rsync must be installed on both the source and destination machines. With warm regards, Tobias -- This above all: To thine own self be true / And it must follow as the night the day / Thou canst not then be false to any man.
