I have been watching this thread with interest, As I have also had this same
difficulty on SuSE 8 on several different machines. For the life of me I could
not figure out how to change the type of cdrom. I changed /dev/cdrom
I changed /etc/fstab
I looked all though Yast2
Buggered if I know!
As I grumbled in a previous posting this problem and the inability of Yast2 to
duplicate an installed package listing correctly from one machine to another
means I am not yet deploying 8.0 servers as much as I love the rest of SuSE 8's
features.
(The other gripe I had in my previous post was solved with the "chkconfig"
command..)
Can we get an answer (and/or patch to yast2) from SuSE for this??

No, you can choose "CDROM" as your installation medium, but you can't change the location of the CDROM.

Hi!
can anyone tell me where Yast stores hardware settings? I
moved my cdrom
from /dev/hdb to /dev/hdc. Unfortunately, yast keeps looking
for hdb to
install software from. I've manually copied the files I
needed and
installed them, but in the future it would be nice to know
where to look
for the config files. I saw a CDrom entry in
/var/lib/YaST2/install.inf,
but changing that doesn't appear to work.
Doesn't that work if you just change the "Installation medium" ?
