EXT2 - AMD 1Ghz Athlon with 512Mb memory - just "ate it" with Kernel update. I decided to try "standard" YAST2 update and took the kernel selection, now it won't even find the disk (IBM 18G connected to Adaptec 29160) pretty vanilla if you ask me. Pretty "secure" kernel if it won't boot. There's nobody that's hacking this box now... Is there a way to get the security part of the update without the wonderful disk destruction ? ============================================== I have had this hang on two HP DL320 G2 servers. On one server, I actually reinstalled the system with ext3 and it still hung on boot, although at a different point. I can't quite recall when it happened with ext3. During the testing I had mounted the filesystem and unmounted as you stated and it didn't help, unfortunately. These machines are only about 6 months to 1 year old.
Hello guys, that bug if it's bug appear onl;y when you have someting in transaction jornal file to be replyed over reiserfs filesystem, in that file are normally somting when the system didn't reboot or shutdown clear. Anyway I upgarded so many machines and only one hangs. How to fix it. Just boot from installation CD or LiveCD and mount the filesystem, them unmout it and reboot the system and everything works fine ;-)

I really don't have the ability to test the latest kernel on my servers due to location, but the last update prior to the latest one (2.6.5-95 I believe) caused my servers to hang on boot, mainly after try to access the transaction logs on my filesystems.
Has anyone tried the latest kernel update on a system that hung before?
For noting, my servers are newer DL320 G2 series, with the latest BIOS, with ReiserFS as the filesystem.
