Hello, I'm writing this mail as I'm experiencing some issues with my ATI video card when running under Debian GNU/Linux. Hello,
I'm writing this mail as I'm experiencing some issues with my ATI video card when running under Debian GNU/Linux. Problem I'm experiencing is lack of rotation, that is xrandr returns:
#v+ $ xrandr --version xrandr program version 1.3.2 Server reports RandR version 1.3 $ xrandr -o right X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes) Major opcode of failed request: 148 (RANDR) Minor opcode of failed request: 2 (RRSetScreenConfig) Serial number of failed request: 14 Current serial number in output stream: 14 $ xrandr -o left X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes) Major opcode of failed request: 148 (RANDR) Minor opcode of failed request: 2 (RRSetScreenConfig) Serial number of failed request: 14 Current serial number in output stream: 14 #v-
"-o normal" works but disables my second monitor.
The following are my installed xorg packages:
#v+ xserver-xorg 1:7.5+3 the X.Org X server xserver-xorg-core 2:1.7.5-1 Xorg X server - core server xserver-xorg-dev 2:1.7.5-1 Xorg X server - development files xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:2.3.2-3 X.Org X server -- evdev input driver xserver-xorg-video-fbdev 1:0.4.1-1 X.Org X server -- fbdev display driver xserver-xorg-video-r128 6.8.1-2 X.Org X server -- ATI r128 display driver xserver-xorg-video-radeon 1:6.12.4-2 X.Org X server -- ATI Radeon display driver xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd 1.3.0-2 X.Org X server -- AMD/ATI r5xx, r6xx display xserver-xorg-video-v4l 1:0.2.0-4 X.Org X server -- Video 4 Linux display driver xserver-xorg-video-vesa 1:2.3.0-1 X.Org X server -- VESA display driver #v-
It seems that the packages should be recent enough.
Attached is output of lspci -vvv as well as Xorg.0.og and xorg.conf.

Check your xorg log. You need to have acceleration enabled to use rotation. Alex -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: radeonhd+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: radeonhd+help@opensuse.org

Check your xorg log. You need to have acceleration enabled to use rotation.
My Xorg.0.log says:
(II) RADEONHD: version 1.3.0, built from dist of git branch master, commit 8cbff [...] (**) RADEONHD(0): Option "AccelMethod" "exa" (**) RADEONHD(0): Option "DRI" "true" (**) RADEONHD(0): Selected EXA 2D acceleration.
However, after you've stressed that the acceleration must be enabled I double checked and found the following as well:
(WW) RADEONHD(0): Failed to initalize EXA; disabling acceleration.
So I build the driver from git but that did not help at all. Only the version changed:
(II) RADEONHD: version 1.3.0, built from git branch master, commit 79a0ab2f
I tried disabling Composite but this did not help at all. Also, note that I'm using dual-head setup. -- Best regards, _ _ .o. | Liege of Serenely Enlightened Majesty of o' \,=./ `o ..o | Computer Science, Michał "mina86" Nazarewicz (o o) ooo +---[mina86@mina86.com]---[mina86@jabber.org]---ooO--(_)--Ooo-- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: radeonhd+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: radeonhd+help@opensuse.org

Check your xorg log and dmesg to see why acceleration failed. Most likely you have the fglrx kernel module loaded or you have kms enabled in the radeon drm which only works with radeon. Thanks! I'd never guess to check dmesg. It turns out I was lacking firmware. So finally, after a few days of struggle, I'm getting somewhere. However, I'm experiencing some unpleasant blinking and after turning acceleration on. This happens both on git/master version as well as the one bundled with Debian (commit 8cbff7bf). Also, I'm still heaving problems setting dual head setup where both screens are rotated. I've tried playing with xrandr but couldn't get it to work and after adding Option "Rotate" "left" to "Monitor" of xorg.conf the screens just went black and there was no reaction to keyboard. -- Best regards, _ _ .o. | Liege of Serenely Enlightened Majesty of o' \,=./ `o ..o | Computer Science, Michał "mina86" Nazarewicz (o o) ooo +---[mina86@mina86.com]---[mina86@jabber.org]---ooO--(_)--Ooo-- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: radeonhd+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: radeonhd+help@opensuse.org
