after a long time of fiddling i just don't understand (i read the mans and docs) how you can checkout a specific git branch.
You need to tell git what local branch to checkout the remote branch as: git checkout -b <local branch> origin/<remote branch> if you give the local branch the same name as the remote branch it will track the remote branch when you pull updates. git checkout -b CS origin/CS 'git branch' will show you local branches, 'git branch -r' will show you remote branches.
