[opensuse-project] oSC15 - Drive to 150
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi all, oSC15 is coming up, May 1-4 in The Hague, and as you may or may not know we are in a bit of trouble concerning registrations and talk submissions. Additionally some legislation changes eventually trickled down to effect us and we have to move our venue. Our previous location BINK36 is being sold as the current owner is being forced, via legislation, to re-focus their effort on housing rentals rather than side projects such as venue rentals. The sales process of BINK36 leaves us in limbo with respect to signing a contract and thus we have to move to a new venue. Thanks to the effort of Hans and Robin a new location has already been found and we are ready to leave BINK36 behind and look forward to meet at Westvliet (http://www.westvliet.nl/algemeen/sfeerimpressie/ .) While this is primarily a sports facility there is plenty of room for us to hang out, chat, hack, and have fun together. Thus, as of today we focus on a new venue and move forward. The new venue is located in a town called Voorburg just on the outskirts of The Hague. The location is easily reachable by train from down town The Hague, thus if you already booked a Hotel there is nothing to worry about. So much for the news about the venue change, an article will appear shortly on news.o.o. Now to my personal appeal to everyone. Yes, we certainly had some rough times over the last couple of years and some of us are probably still disgruntled. However, I think the time has come to let the past rest and look forward to new horizons. oSC15 is a great opportunity to do just that. We can all come together re-kindle the spirit that has made past events great with large numbers of us Geekos participating in oSC. oSC is our event, it can only be successfull if as many of us as possible participate. Whether we discuss the booth boxes, marketing efforts, design, or technical contributions, all areas benefit from face to face time. oSC is our opportunity to meet face to face and discuss and improve the state of our project. As with every conference TSP money is available to help get you to the conference. With the budget in very good shape there will be extra money available for the TSP to help more people get to oSC. The TSP period will open in the near future, watch out for announcements. Please consider to join your fellow Geekos at oSC15 in The Hague, May 1 - 4, 2015. The goal is to have at least 150 people at the conference, overshooting the goal would certainly be a welcome sign of live. Thanks for taking the time to read this and I hope to see you in The Hague. yes. let's discuss practical problems coming from my home (Toulouse, France, but it's probably the same for everybody) is not easy. car is impracticable (more than 12h drive), booking train seems to be pretty difficult outside country :-( so airplane, but cheap flights go only to Amsterdam. That's not very far (30 km from Westvliet approx), but how to go? Hostels can be pretty cheap. could it be possible to block for openSUSE some rooms from stayok (http://www.stayokay.com/en/hostel/den-haag) from den haag or amsterdam? with some way to go from airport to the hostel? If I come, I could come from april 30 to sunday 3. The problem is more for the sunday, because we could be in a hurry to go from OSC15 to airport (the April 30 we have plenty of time) thanks jdd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org
Hi Jdd, great to hear you are coming! And thanks for your questions. We've only yesterday decided to move the location, so we'll be updating the FAQ asap. For now: - Train is possible from Toulouse by TGV and Thalys, but it's quite a journey (according to the international trainplanner approx 11hours), so travelling by plane would be desirable - Both Schiphol and Rotterdam/The Hague Airport are within 30 minutes from The Hague by either car/taxi or train, in The Hague and Voorburg public transport (bus/tram/metro) availability is excellent. - The venue is approx 10/15 minutes by public transport from The Hague Central station - There are quite a lot of cheap AirBNB locations and hostels in both The Hague and Voorburg, at the moment we don't yet have special rates with hotels but we will be working on this asap as well I hope to have answered your questions for now, again, thanks for asking and looking forward to see you at oSC 15! ok, its Amsterdam. flight to Amsterdam are much cheaper than to den haag or rotterdam, don't ask me why (none for den haag on the dates for me, €900 for rotterdam, €200 for amsterdam :-)) and voorburg in on the train line between amsterdam and den haag, so it may be easier for me to book hotel in amlsterdam. I'm surprised to see how many dormitories like stayok are available :-) for around E30 a night (wich is pretty expensive for 10 people dormitory :-)) thanks jdd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

No it is not. From Amsterdam/airport you travel to 'Den Haag CS' not 'Den Haag HS'. From 'Den Haag CS' you can travel by train to Voorburg either with the Sprinter to Gouda Goverwelle or Utrecht CS. Do not take the Intercity to Utrecht CS, it passes Voorburg.
may be easier for me to book hotel in amlsterdam.
The train trip from Amsterdam CS to Voorburg takes about 1 hour, but it may be 1:20h. -- fr.gr. Freek de Kruijf -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

Probably because Amsterdam is a bigger airport. Airport taxes in Rotterdam and Den Haag may be higher too. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (9.0°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - your free DNS host, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

Hi Jdd, I wouldnt recommend staying in Amsterdam, from there it will take you at least an hour (+) to get to the venue, while from The Hague city center it's only about 15 minutes max. Schiphol is a bigger airport with much more airlines flying at it, sometimes Rotterdam/The Hague airport is cheaper because they primarily handle low cost carriers, but it depends if one of those has a connection near you. oh... yes, on the internet page I only noticed "central", but it was not Amsterdam central but Den Haag central :-) looks like there is a train station in Shiphol airport with a direct connection to Den Haag. So good :-) so best trav el is to book from my home to Amsterdam and there the train to Den Haag (very cheap: under €9) so the hostel question is what is the best bear Den Haag station thanks jdd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org
Hi Jdd,
I'd also recommend not staying in Amsterdam, not just for travel time,
but also for the social aspect! There are plenty of places to stay in
The Hague, Voorburg, Rijswijk which are close to the location and
close to some friendly bars. We are working with the location to get
some good deals on hotels and hostels, we will keep everyone informed
as that progresses.
Look forward to seeing you all!

Same here likewise. Only difference, I am 5000+ km :-) away from Amsterdam & all flights from here [i.e. Mumbai] to Amsterdam are super expensive.[Due to summer vacation season here] I am taking cheapest route i.e. will land in Brussels airport & will take train/bus from Brussels to Den Haag. [Depending on approval of visa by the Dutch embassy here.] Just a noob question: Is there any train station inside/nearby Brussels international airport which takes me to Den Haag?
Hostels can be pretty cheap.
could it be possible to block for openSUSE some rooms from stayok (http://www.stayokay.com/en/hostel/den-haag) from den haag or amsterdam?
hostelworld has advance booking facility which I always use. They charge 10~12% down payment for advance booking + 1~2 Euro/$ if want to opt for refund in case of cancellation. This is useful to me to get refund in case of worst scenario like visa refusal etc. Regards, Amey. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

On level -1 on the airport of Brussels is a train station where you can find a train to Rotterdam. From Rotterdam you can take a train to Den Haag. Traveltime is about 1:15h -- fr.gr. Non hi speed option (cheapest): 2:20h from airport to The Hague Central Station Part hi speed: 1:55h from airport to The Hague Central Station Sites you can use: https://www.nsinternational.nl/ (biggest train company, allows hi speed options) http://9292.nl/ (public transport) Both sites have English options. The train tickets you can buy beforehand. Note: trams etc require public transport chipcard. The "nsinternational" ticket you can use without that chipcard. Though as soon as you take a trams/metro/bus or train with ticket not from nsinternational.nl you need the chipcard. -- Regards, Olav -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

You are right. Latest cheap train leaves at 21:11. Earliest train at 06:11. One train per hour. For the fast train you use the same train as above. However you need to change trains in Antwerp (to the fast train), which brings you to Den Haag HS (different from Den Haag CS), but you can also change train in Rotterdam CS. -- fr.gr.
