I have a question that I hope someone can help with. Every once in a while I see people write about upstream and downstream projects. What exactly does this mean? My guess is that it has something to do with the connection between SUSE and openSUSE, but I would appreciate a solid explanation if someone could help me out with this please?
"Upstream" = "we use a project that someone else has created". KDE is an upstream project. "Downstream" = "someone derives their distribution from ours". Anything created in SUSE Studio that uses openSUSE is an example of a "downstream" distribution; this includes SUSE Linux Enterprise.
