It requires a lot of commitment to spare time to give back to the project. Being a board member gives one the chance to contribute so much to the project and help the community by pushing ideas forward.
I definitely agree that serving on the board benefits from (if not requires) commitment and desire to contribute. In terms of time commitment, technically an hour, ninety minutes per week could suffice for board specific work. You wouldn't be able to contribute a lot at that level and if you want to (help) drive something, be more active resolving some conflict, prepare for a board presentation at one of our conferences,... there definitely will be higher/broader peaks. Just don't let the role and commitment scare you. It's a great way to contribute, it's a great way to support openSUSE and our communities and the many individuals engaging. And you can effect things. Yet its also being part of a team, so you won't be alone. Gerald
