Hello, Question: is it just the university spam filter, or people really don't get an e-mail, when their membership application is accepted? I was surprised to find this morning, that I'm a member by browsing the member list :-) I wasn't there a couple of weeks ago... The wiki mentions, that users get an e-mail address, but has no mention how it goes. My address does not seem to exist yet: roxen# telnet mx1.suse.de 25 Trying 195.135.220.2... [opensuse-project] What things can we do to make openSUSE the most stable distribution?

Hello, On an other list, it was suggested that this list would be the best place to have a discussion on how we as a community may work together to make openSUSE the best and most stable dstribution. Some things AJ suggested are... "IMHO the things the items where most help by everybody is needed are: * early testing with good bugreports in bugzilla.novell.com * help in bug triage so that the engineers can work on real bugs * fixing bugs I agree with this, but I think we should look at things. The issues I see with the 11.0 release is Wireless Network issues, KDE 4.0.X where from what I see using 4.1.1 it would have been a lot better to have had it. I do not want a KDE discussion! I find the new management stack greatly improved, although bug reporting is a bit hard given, I have not found a way to explain being un-able give a way to explain that with the GUI everything runs together and you can not make choices. Command line and zypper allow it to be done, but yast2 was impossible. Earlier testing would have helped a lot, with bug reports. But I think a good discussion on what we as a community can/should do could be very benefical to the project. What ideas to others have. I would like a constructive discussion is possible. If we want to express something bad please give a suggestion on what could have been done. My points about the things I have heard/seen could have been resolved by better testing. I rarely use wireless so I am dependent on other to test this area. I am currently using KDE 4.1.1 to generate bug reports to hopefully get them fixed before the 11.1 release. This maybe could extend to SLES or SLED. I have problems with SLED because it does not currently support newer hardware. I am sure things are in the works to fix this situation, but maybe the next release of these products is what is really needed. So please what can we as a community do to get things going. [opensuse-project] Less than 7 days for Nominations and Applications

OK people listen up... please? Thanks! OK, just a reminder that you have less than 160 hours to register for the openSUSE board election if you haven't done so already. For the mathematically challenged, 160 hours is just under seven full days! Yes, that is how long you have left to get your membership[0] application in to be able to vote on the upcoming board election[1]. It is also the amount of time you have left to get your notification of intention to run for the first community elected Board[2]. You can only run for the board if you hold openSUSE Membership, you can only vote for your favourite candidates if you have openSUSE Membership. Do you see a pattern here? Good! Also it would be good if all of the current candidates could ensure that they have filled in their platforms on the as requested before then. Some have already, I appreciate that people are busy, but if you want to be on the Board (or vote for the board) you have to be prompt. Hi! I'm happy that I have a chance to show you, who I am, what I am doing :) . *** About me *** I was interested on openSUSE since 10.1 (it was SuSE, really). I had no luck and I didn't had to use it - no sound = mv SuSE /dev/null. After changing hardware, I really forgot about SuSE. Oops, should I tell this? With months after openSUSE 10.3 release, I migrated and observer positive changes in the project. When 11.0 came, I was excited, how many things you did fixed. That was a lot of happyness. My adventure at bugzillas began when I was a Fedora packager - I learned many things and I use them now, filing many bugs in openSUSE, trying to help, as much I can, the developers. I'm not afraid of downloading from SVN, CVS, BZR and GIT. Compiling and debugging also is nothing new for me. I'm maintaining 8 packages @ home:liviopl project @ oSB and also gnome-do @ GNOME:Community (not alone - with few another members). When I see - I'm correcting typos and misspellings @ openSUSE Wiki in both English and Polish. It seems, that recently I became openSUSE maintainer @ Polish Wikipedia - did much there. *** What is my manifesto/program? *** I would like to be able to propose more, sometimes revolutional, functionality and features and to be heard. I would like to have voice in some important votings 'bout openSUSE. My plan is to rule the world with open source software and it's quality and community. It sounds funny, but it isn't. Open source software is the feature of computer software and needs to gain more features, more "niceness", strong and smart community. Really. You may (dis)agree with me, but that's what communities must do - help themselves create high quality usable software, which fullfills needs of people. There are many things to do and to change. Developers sometimes need someone which can show them, what direction to go. I would like to be one of them. That's not so short... I'm announcing my candidacy for the openSUSE board as a Novell employee. Really short bio: My name is Stephen Shaw. My love of Linux started about 10 years ago when someone handed me redhat 5.0. About suse 9.2 is when I completely switched over to suse and haven't gone back. Last year was the first year that I contributed to the project as part of the Novell Xen team. As of June this year I started on the SLED team working on accessibility. As part of the local community, I've been working a lot lately with the Utah Open Source Foundation and the annual Utah Open Source Conference. One of our primary goals is to grew open source in Utah. With that I've been working with some of the local user groups around here.
