[opensuse-marketing] Public openSUSE 11.3 AMIs
Hi all, I noticed that there weren't any public openSUSE 11.3 AMIs, so I made some: openSUSE 11.3 (32-bit, S3) ap-southeast-1 ami-f6fa84a4 eu-west-1 ami-75d1e501 us-east-1 ami-42d82b2b us-west-1 ami-a3dd8de6 openSUSE 11.3 (64-bit, S3) ap-southeast-1 ami-fafa84a8 eu-west-1 ami-67d1e513 us-east-1 ami-f6d82b9f us-west-1 ami-b5dd8df0 These are JeOS + zypper and built with SUSE Studio. EBS versions will come later. Cheers, James T. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

Hi all,
Hi James :)
I noticed that there weren't any public openSUSE 11.3 AMIs, so I made some:
Pardon my ignorance, but what are "AMI" and "EBS" versions ?

Apologies for not explaining the technical jargon beforehand.

Thanks Satoru :-) I don't know where is proper/best place to discuss this, so figured I would start here. Other distros (eg. Ubuntu) have a lot of technical information and marketing in this space, so we have quite a bit to catch up: https://10.cloud.ubuntu.com/ http://cloud.ubuntu.com/ http://cloud.ubuntu.com/ami/ https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EC2StartersGuide http://uec-images.ubuntu.com/releases/10.10/release/ General market share of publicly available AMIs: http://thecloudmarket.com/stats I propose adding public openSUSE AMI information on the following page: http://www.opensuse.org/en/ http://software.opensuse.org/113/en Thoughts, comments? Cheers, James T.

I have created a new set of public openSUSE 11.3 AMIs, with more standardized names and descriptions. It now also includes EBS versions. The previous set of AMI IDs that I sent earlier have been removed. Please refer to http://blog.susestudio.com/2011/02/public-opensuse-113-amis.html for details and the full AMI list. Hey, James,
That's REALLY COOL!
Next step is to keep an eye out for special purpose configurations,
and build AMIs for those, something similar to the VMware Appliance
Marketplace.
Will check them out...

Yes, it's easy to do this with SUSE Studio/Gallery [1]. If you already have an existing appliance there, you can simply select the EC2 format and hit build. If not, just clone from the appropriate appliance (or make one from scratch) and do the same thing. By the way, the public openSUSE 11.3 AMI is also available in SUSE Studio/Gallery: http://susegallery.com/a/n0rKOx/opensuse-113-ami.
Will check them out... Have you posted in the Forums Technical Help in the "HowTo/FAQ" Forum?
I just did, thanks for the pointer there. Cheers, James T. [1] http://susegallery.com http://susegallery.com/
