[opensuse-marketing] Draft: 3rd anniversary of 1st openSUSE Project release
Hi all, Here's a draft I'd like to put out on Oct. 6th (today or tomorrow, depending on your time zone...) Any comments, suggestions, additions? (Note, I'll add the remainder of the links later...) Best, Zonker Third anniversary of openSUSE Project's first release Just three years ago today, the openSUSE Project <a href="http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-announce/2005-10/msg00002.html">announced its first release</a>. Andreas Jaeger sent the word out to the opensuse-announce list on October 6, 2005, announcing the release of SUSE Linux 10.0: <blockquote>I'm glad to announce the final version (aka the Goldmaster) of SUSE Linux 10.0. Developing 10.0 as part of the openSUSE project with an open bugzilla was a new and great experience. Thanks a lot to everybody that contributed in testing, reporting and fixing bugs, discussions etc.</blockquote> The 10.0 release featured the latest and greatest free and open source software: the 2.6.13 Linux kernel, Firefox 1.0.6, GNOME 2.12, OpenOffice.org 1.9, and http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=suse"much more</a>. The project, which was announced at LinuxWorld Expo in San Francisco in August of 2005, has achieved a lot in just three years: * The formation of the openSUSE Board * Five stable releases in three years (10.0, 10.1, 10.2, 10.3, and 11.0) * Introduction and complete re-write of Zypper/libzypp for better package management * More than 200 members approved since the start of the project * Release of the openSUSE Build Service 1.0, which allows complete and transparent participation in building openSUSE Linux * First openSUSE Board elections begun * Launch of News.opensuse.org * Creation of the lizards.opensuse.org portal * Launch of unified English-language openSUSE Forums The openSUSE Project has grown a lot since the first release in 2005, and the future is looking bright! -- Joe 'Zonker' Brockmeier openSUSE Community Manager jzb@zonker.net http://zonker.opensuse.org/ http://blogs.zdnet.com/community/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

Although I don't know exactly and can't decide which day is the real birthday of openSUSE, release of SUSE Linux 10.0 or announcement of starting openSUSE project, I'd like to celebrate the 3rd anniversary of openSUSE today! Because it is already Oct. 6th today on our time zone, we - entire openSUSE community - have very few time to prepare the celebration for this year's 'Birthday', but we - Japanese local user group - are planning to hold a small birthday party during the open seminar featuring Zonker in Tokyo tonight. # http://www.novell.com/ja-jp/events/2008/20081006_1.html # (Sorry, Japanese only!) I don't mind if there are two birthdays of openSUSE. One for the openSUSE distribution and the other for the openSUSE project. If we have two birthdays, we can get two chances in a year to celebrate and 'have a lot of fun!', don't we? -- _/_/_/ To be Happy! _/_/_/ _/_/ Satoru Matsumoto _/_/ _/ helios_reds@gmx.net _/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org
