Printing & Viewing problems in lyx-cjk

Dear Folk I have tried to generate DVI, PDF, PS and html files from Lyx-cjk and Lyx. Many things are fine in general, but I found a bug in lyx-cjk. It is OK in lyx. There is two symbols next 'P' in the Korean keyboard (Possibly in English and others as well^^): [ ] / with shift they become { }. When I generate files from lyx-cjk, the symbols [ ] are broken and are shown with some numbers. For example, if I write [test], it is generated in dvi, pdf, html as '91test93'. However, {test} seems fine. Generating PDF in openoffice and in lyx is fine, but, regrettably lyx-cjk causes this problem. I found this problem in lyx-cjk 1.2.0, but if i remember correctly, it seemed OK in lyx-cjk1.1.6. Thank you in advance. All the best, Jong-Hwa

Broken menu in Lyx-cjk

Dear Folk I have just installed 8.2. There must be significant changes since 8.0. First of all, I could not properly see Korean menu in Lyx-cjk, although I tried to follow Dr. Fabian's SuSE-CJK instructions. I downloaded Korean fonts and related packages... Adding Japanese capability (for dummies)

Asked to specify language, I believe that I chose "English (UK)". Perhaps that was a mistake; if it was, I'd be happy to rectify it. But how? I am a total newbie in Linux and don't mind being told to RTFM. The SuSE 8.2 manual doesn't mention Japanese, Canna, kinput, input, IME, FEP, etc. (As I understand it, SuSE invites me to pay them 46 Euros to phone the question to them in Germany.) So I try YaST, or anyway its Control Center. "Install and remove software" sounds promising. This turns out to have a list of programs/modules, most of which are checked (meaning, I think, that I already have them installed), some of which (e.g. aspell, gedit2, gstreamer) aren't checked. (I don't know why these particular unchecked programs are listed. Are they what are on one of the three CDs? Are they thought to be particularly popular?) Anyway, Canna, kinput2 and the like don't seem to be anywhere among them. It also has "system update", which offers four choices -- : default system : minimum graphical system (without KDE) : minimum system : update installed packages only (no additional software will be installed) : clean up the system (delete unmaintained packages) -- none of which sounds helpful to me. I can already browse Japanese websites and view mail in Japanese, but (according to my minimal understanding of GNU/Linux) I don't have canna, kinput2, or any alternative installed. I did manage to find on the web and download tar.gz ("tarball"?) files of what seem to be the source for (i) canna 3.2, (ii) canna 3.5 beta, (iii) kinput2 3.1 not-obviously-beta and (iv) kinput 3.1 beta 4 -- but acquaintances who are familiar with Linux (but not SuSE) guess that installation should be via some simpler method. So what should I do? Please KISCIS (Keep it simple coz I'm stupid). Thank you!

Problem with 'locale' on SuSE 8.2

Hi. I have some problems with the Greek language on 8.2. I have installed 8.2 with the Greek language as the default. KDE displays everything really fine. The problem was when i ran XMMS (which uses gtk as far as i know). SuSE has defined the LANG variable and LC_*** variables to "el_GR.ISO-8859-7". So i had to change it to "el_GR". Since that change XMMS displays the translations right. As i remember i had to do the same thing on SuSE 8.1 (i think i had send a bug report for that). So can u explain me why locale does not work correct for "el_GR.ISO-8859-7" with some programs like XMMS? Another problem with Greek characters, is that the framebuffer console doesn't display them correct. SuSE has set lat7a-14.psfu by default. I tried the same changes for the locale variables but the problem still persists. Any thoughts ? Thanks Filip. _________________________________________________________________ Tired of spam? printing PS or PDF from Konqueror with Japanese pages

I have Sue 8.2 Pro installed (English Desktop but Japanese system is installed) all Japanese input (Kinput2) is working fine I have also installed all the Japanese fonts and here is the problem when I try to print a Japanese web page to PS or PDF it goes through the process of printing but at the last page it hangs and I have to kill the browser from CLI to get rid of it. I have no problems printing to a printer just when printing to PDF or PS (of course I am in Japan and our printer support Japanese fonts) I am also not able to print Japanese web pages when using Mozilla. (Oh yeah I am using CUPS) Any help would be appreciated (or did I mioss something stupid like usual?-be kind) David Blomberg

8.2: changing keyboard layout group doesn't work

Hello, (SuSE 8.2 on Compaq Presario 2100) My problem probably has an easy solution, but I can't understand it. First of all, I noticed (in Kontrol Center) that Keyboard Layouts have been moved from 'Peripherals' to 'Regional'. As in 2 earlier version, I set as following: Primary layout: sr (serbian) Primary variant: basic (only possible) Additional layouts: sr (only, without default 'us') Group Shift/Lock behaviour: Left Win key changes group In earlier versions, I had a small 'sr' flag. By default, it meant 'us' keyboard. When I press Left-Win, I got 'sr' cyrillic keyboard. Now it doesn't work. 'sr' in the corner means _only_ cyrillic keyboard. For common us keyboard I have to add 'us' layout ; it's not good because I can't switch between layouts so fast. What's wrong? Nikola

Adding Japanese

Hello, I've just subscribed to this list, but noticed that there is a related thread going on right now, about adding Japanese language capability. I went through Mike Fabian's pages (http://www.suse.de/~mfabian/suse-cjk/suse-cjk.html), but either I missed out on some parts or I didn't understand things properly. I have SuSE 8.2 personal installed, using KDE. I installed canna and kinput2. I would like to type Japanese text in OpenOffice and also in Web Browsers (Konqueror and Mozilla). The system should not run entirely in Japanese; it should be possible to switch from German to Japanese keyboard with hotkeys in the same session - ideally. (I've just migrated from Windows a few weeks ago, so my thinking about these things is still rather Windows-ish, I'm afraid.) Also, I have user-specific .Xmodmap-configurations designed to facilitate input of certain Unicode characters from the Latin Extended Additional ranges, and these should remain usable. I also tried setting Japanese as additional language in KDE's control center, but I can't add Japanese in the locale "Germany" that I've selected, and when I activate "Enable keyboard layouts", the user-specific .Xmodmap doesn't work anymore. From what I've read on Mike's pages, I understand how I would configure the system to run completely in Japanese, that is, how the X server would start up with Japanese as the basic locale. However, I don't yet get what I have to do to have Japanese input enabled as an alternative configuration that can be activated from within the same instance of X. The degree of completeness varies a lot. I know that Japanese and Korean are almost complete and that simplified Chinese is also quite good. Traditional Chinese is extremely incomplete, probably less than 1% translated. I guess most of the others are more or less complete, but I don't now for sure.
