[opensuse-kde] Reply-to address?
Is there any way the mailing list can have the reply-to address set as opensuse-kde@opensuse.org? At least for me it is currently it is set to the person who sent the message, meaning replies by default go to that person instead of the mailing list as a whole. The KDE mailing lists have the reply-to address as the mailing list which makes it much easier to write replies. -Todd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Simply pressing "l" in kontact works nicely for me. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

He doesn't use KMail/Kontact. You have User-Agent: KMail/1.13.5 (Linux/2.6.31.12-0.2-desktop; KDE/4.5.1; x86_64; ; ) written in the header, he doesn't. He uses some broken mail client instead of the KDE one. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org
It is set, your non-KMail mail client just sucks. On Thursday 09 September 2010 18:15:07 todd rme wrote:

when working with mail clients that don't support list replies, i pick "reply to all" and delete the other name(s). isn't ideal, but easier than copy & paste. alternative: use a proper client, at least for your list mail. kmail comes to mind... -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

I'm using gmail.
Then you have to do like the rest of us using GMail..... Reply to All and manually fix the To: and CC. GMail does not work well with mailing lists.... the mailing list si configured correctly if you use an email client that handles the headers correctly... KMail, Thunderbird etc etc. Gmail.... is broken when it comes to mailing lsits (note.. I use GMail too). But, as I said, the KDE mailing lists work just fine with the reply-to address, as do most other mailing lists I belong to. This mailing list (and one other) doesn't, however. So it is possible to set up the mailing list so it works properly with gmail, and at least for my unrepresentative sample most do so. -Todd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org
Use KMail/Kontact if you want to use that feature. Why a FOSS project should bow down before proprietary software is beyond my comprehension. On Thursday 09 September 2010 18:54:10 todd rme wrote:

We go through this conversation every couple of months. The listmanagers at openSUSE have decided not to break the reply-to headers the way some other mailing lists do (the KDE lists that you refer to for example). The short answer is, nothing will change. You, I, and others, are using a broken email client. This is how this mailing list, and all other opensuse lists work. If you use GMail or other non-standard/non-compliant email clients, that's your choice (and mine since I also use GMail), but the mailing list will not be changed to accommodate broken email clients. Don't shoot the messenger.. .I'm just telling you what the reality is. GMail does not respect the standards, and you're seeing the consequences of that. GMail also has many other stupidities such as not allowing you to see your own initial mailing list posting (they hide it from you). You can POP your GMail but this also has it's problems. depends. Not a problem if you do *not* use gmail for smtp. And pop provides me with copies of my list posts via the list :^). I can use my own smtp or that of my provider with my gmail "From:" address, remembering that the "From:" address can be anything, but, for the list must be recognized as your subscription address. -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Old phrase but a true one: This is what you get for using proprietary applications. Does GMail properly support the IMAP standard yet? Last time I checked it was the Internet Explorer of web services. BTW I never agreed to Google's TOS and its habit to scan through all mails for Google's commercial interest. I find it offending, you're forcing me into Google's data mining operation without asking. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

This is a public mailing list with freely-available archives on openSUSE's web page. That means everything you say here is being indexed by google whether anyone uses gmail or not. If you find it that offensive then you should avoid using this or any other publicly-visible mailing list, because google and other search engines scan all of them. If these were private conversations you might have a bit more of a case, but by signing up to this mailing list you agree to let everyone who wants to see every message you post to it. -Todd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org
