[opensuse-kde] Packaging separate QtWebKit releases
As near as I can tell, opensuse is still using the QtWebKit versions packaged with Qt. However, these versions are very out-of-date. The official QtWebKit releases have been decoupled from Qt releases, with their own release schedule and version numbering [1]. This is similar to how Phonon handles its releases. It appears that the current stable version is 2.1.1 [2], with the 2.2 branch currently under development. Might it be a good idea for opensuse to use this version rather than the one packaged with Qt, similar to how Phonon is handled? I think there are two approaches: 1. Put the 2.1 version in Qt:Stable, and link it in the KDE directories (KDF, KDE:Unstable:SC, and KDE:UpdatedApps), and optionally put the unstable 2.2 branch in Qt:Unstable 2. Put the 2.1 version in KDF and link it in updated Apps, and optionally put the 2.2 branch in KDE:Unstable:SC and KDE:Unstable:Playground, The former approach would allow for people who are not using KDE to get the update easily, while the latter approach would be consistent with how Phonon is handled. Phonon, however, is primarily a KDE project (despite being used by Qt), while QtWebKit is primarily a Qt project (I think). -Todd [1] http://labs.qt.nokia.com/2010/03/03/qtwebkit-releases/ [2] http://trac.webkit.org/wiki/QtWebKitRelease21 [3] http://trac.webkit.org/wiki/QtWebKitRelease22 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

I wonder if this might also make it easier to fix the long-standing issue with lack of html5 audio/video in openSUSE qtwebkit. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=559006 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org
