KDE 3.3.0 and CDWriter odd behaviour

Hi, I thought I would run this query around this group in case some one has an idea of where to go next. I have just installed SuSE 9.2 and have it running reasonably well except for an irritating problem with a cdwriter. The drawer of the CDwriter keeps opening, a bit like the eject command has been run on the device. I have the second ide channel running a DVD rom /dev/hdc and a CDWriter /dev/hdd. With some help from the SLE list and Donn I have discovered that if I run any other environment other tahn kde the drive drawer will not open. eg Gnome or fvwm2. The DVD does not have a problem.
