You didn't read the whole article, right? Because it doesn't work currently with it, but the 4.2 branch is a living branch. As sebas noted "At least not until further notice."
So while right now it's not a good idea, I won't claim that 4.2 branch will never support qt 4.5
With that in mind, can we have the factory/4.2+Qt4.5 repo returned? I don't understand why it was pulled. I've been using it, and this is the smoothest, most responsive KDE4 version I've used to date. I don't have any issues with my plasma theme, or the widgets I'm using. I don't have the weird issues with the systray. Why do I have to revert now to the quirks I used to have, if I want to stay current? From the feedback I've seen on various forums, it seems to be positive. Even the systray bug reports in kde.org show the issue to be addressed with Qt4.5. Other than the devs, I haven't seen any user reports of issues or broken compatibility with 4.5. That's not to say they don't exist, but from what I've seen, the user experience has been positive. Acutally, in fairness, that's a lie. Qt4.5 broke KDM4 for me, and from what I gather, is not an uncommon issue. So I can see where that's a concern. I'm quite happy using KDM3 for now, works fine, and it's worth the improvements in KDE4.2, but I still think the option should be there, or better yet, KDM4 patched. I can understand that the KDE plasma devs aren't yet sure about what to do with compatibility for 4.5, but as the relevant dot article pointed out, they're looking at workarounds, not a dead stop. On top of which, 4.2 likely won't be shipping with 11.2 anyways, 4.3 will use Qt4.5, and the OBS repos are cavet emptor regardless, so can we at least have the option for now? Barring that, do the packages *have* to be built against Qt4.5, or can 4.2 factory packages be used with KDE/QT45? Or can I just use my home repo on OBS to build the 4.2 packages against the QT45 repo, at my own risk?
