For whatever reason, the laptop's touchpad was not detected/installed
correctly. Using the laptop has become extremely difficult. The mouse opens *almost* every window and app that it trails over and hardware clicking/tapping doesn't work.

From following the discussion here, it would appear that upgrading to 9.2 can be a potentially difficult task for laptop users. If anyone contacts SUSE support and gets this touchpad issue resolved I would love to hear about it. Until then, I think I'm going to stick to 9.1. I can't afford to crap out my laptop.
Actually, I found that 9.2 works better on my laptop that did 9.1. One of the problems I had with 9.1 was the tapping sensitivity of the touchpad. Under the 2.4 kernel, it worked fine, and under the 2.6 kernel it either did not work at all or was so sensitive, it would respond to a breath. On 9.2, the touchpad sensitivity is back to normal.
I agree. SuSE 9.2 works much better on my laptop than any other distro I've used; it even works significantly better than SuSE 9.1. I now have a certain level of power management that I've never had with Linux on my laptop--albeit not perfect. And the wireless drivers are much, much better.
The issues I have with 9.2 is that: 1. The CDs do not contain all the packages in the distro.
I didn't know that. What significant packages are missing?
2. My laptop is unable to read the multi-layer DVD.
Fortunately, my laptop read the DVD fine.
We had a discussion on this on the SuSE English list. I think this can be solved by providing an archive of the packages left off the CDs.
The ONLY problem I've had so far is with the touchpad. More than anything though, my issue is that I'm not sure where to look to troubleshoot the problem. I've spent a great deal of time searching the SuSE portal, and the new Novell support knowledge base. I've found very little about touchpad problems, and nothing that deals specifically with 9.2. Until of course, Andrew Williams posted a link to a recent message on the SuSE Linux Support forum (the previous message in this thread). That's the exact same problem I'm having. Even dmesg shows the same error codes.
hmmm, one positive. I just went trawling for success stories with this posting: http://forums.suselinuxsupport.de/index.php?act=ST&f=33&t=8506
Thanks Andrew! Hopefully I'll have this issue resolved soon and I'll post it here. Take care. Chris Shanahan
