Hi folks,
I've a strange problem using Kmail 1.9.1 distributed with SuSE 10.1 (Open SuSE). Sometimes, not always, if I try to download Emails from my pop3-Server, the Emails are deleted on the server side by my kmail client, and don't downlaod the Emails.
I could check this via a webmail interface which enables access to my mailbox at the server. Before downloading the Emails, the my servers mailbox is full of emails, after I try to dowmlaod them, my servers mailbox is empty, and kmail says only: "no new mails available"
This "feature" is really not fine. Right now I am not able to find something like a reason for this error. For me it only occurs, and I can't see under which condition it occurs... My first assumption was, it has something to do with kwallet, so I switchted it off. Afterwards the error doesn't occur as often as before, but it still occurs.
Has anyone any idea what might be the reason, and I how I can get rid of this problem? This is really an error, which can lead to another mail client tool, e.g. as mutt...
Cheers
Alexander

Alex, Have you tried another email client to test this? It could be a problem on the server end, rather than yours, if it just started.
I've tested Mozilla Thunderbird, and this "deletion" never occurs; but I am not so happy with Thunderbird, I would prefer Kmail. After that I've asked the admin of my provider, and he found out of the protocols that my client was it, which forced the deletion oy my emails at the server side. However, I never saw this protocol :-( As I already told it, the behaviour is like this: I look via a web-browser to the webmail interface of my provider, and I can find there new emails for me. Then (immediately!!!) I try to download those Emails with Kmail, and after 10 seconds or so, Kmail finishes the download with the message: "No new emails...". Reloading the webpage with the webmail interface approve this: there are no longer any emails in my mailbox on the server side... and alos no emails in my local inbox.
Have you tried renaming your kmail directory or it's config file so a new one is created to test if your configuration has gone to the dark side?
Why do you suggest this? Any background informations would be fine, because I like to understand what configuration failures (and I assume this "bug" is caused by a buggy configuration) might cause such an behauviour.
I always wondered if kmail had a feature such as this. I used a mailer on the Amiga that I could look at the headers of each mail before downloading or deleting on the server. It was very handy.
Again, some more infos to that... Cheers Alexander --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org
