Wohoo! IT WORKS!
Based on my and David's experience with Ilya's x86_64 live DVD, I wiped my production 11.4_x86/KDE3 partition and reinstalled from scratch. Everything works just fine. I did not install the replacement "systemsettings-kde3" module, as Kcontrol now works perfectly without it. Ilya, are you planning to put the two "desktop-data" files, currently in "... /Ansus:/branches:/openSUSE:/11.4:/Update:/Test/standard/", into the regular ".../KDE:/KDE3/openSUSE_11.4/" repo? All that said, in my previous 11.4_x86/KDE3 (pre-wipe) install, and this one, I've noted only two potential problem areas: 1. k3b (v1.05) seems to be getting very long in the tooth, and absolutely refuses to format any non-preformatted DVDs that I have. At best, it will start, then finish immediately --- having accomplised nothing, even if "forced" is checked. I have to reboot to Windows and use imgburn to do it! I've updated a test 11.4/kde3 partition with the latest k3b and, of course, it wants to pull in a pile of kde4 stuff. I've let it do that, minus the virtuoso and strigi junk. Seems to be working OK, but I need to run some more tests. 2. Firefox 4 seems to have rendering bugs, so I have gladly reverted to 3.6.16. Both, in 11.4/kde3, also seem to have difficulty downloading and rendering embedded .pdfs. Need to refresh, try to launch in new window, sometimes multiple times just to get the .pdf to load and render completely. No such issues in 11.3/kde3. I've tried both 11.2 and 11.3 Catalyst drivers. No diff. Maybe it's just early days.
