If we want to stick with vBulletin that's the only way to go. Personally not the biggest fan of vBulletin, but also I'm not a user/admin of any bulletin board software. I'm pretty sure that we can get this amount of money (maybe from SUSE?). Also we need to make sure that a.) someone will actively "maintain" this software, i.e. apply updates b.) have access to updates (i.e. subscription or whatever will be needed).
d) switch to something else, e.g. discourse. Apart from migrating the current contents, this is easy. I don't know what the forum admins would say to losing the contents.
Also an option, but probably more work. I know that darix is a big fan of discourse, so maybe he can help out with that. With migration it might be way more triyk than a.). Best regards, Karol Babioch
