Feature changed by: Ricardo Gabriel Berlasso (RGBsuse) Feature #312673, revision 2 Title: Enable Sub-Pixel-Hinting openSUSE Distribution: Unconfirmed Priority Requester: Important Requested by: Stefan Frank (stefanf74) Partner organization: openSUSE.org Description: To improve the look of fonts, enable the Sub-Pixel-Hinting. The patents that lead to subpixel font hinting being turned of by default in the freetype2 library have now expired! So please enable this feature in version 12.1. Ubuntu (since 10.4?) has already enabled it. + Discussion: + #1: Ricardo Gabriel Berlasso (rgbsuse) (2011-07-24 14:47:26) + I think you are confusing font hinting + (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hinting) with sub pixel rendering + (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sub_pixel_rendering) . They are two + different technologies. While I agree to activate hinting by default + with "soft" stile, I do not like sub pixel rendering. At least for me, + font hinting and anti aliasing: yes + sub pixel rendering: no -- openSUSE Feature: https://features.opensuse.org/312673
