Feature changed by: Karl Cheng (qantas94heavy) Feature #320175, revision 8 Title: YaST sw_install should gain 'application centric' view openSUSE Distribution: Duplicate of #312489 - Master status: Unconfirmed + Master status: Duplicate of #310778 Priority Requester: Desirable Requested by: Dominique Leuenberger (dimstar) Partner organization: openSUSE.org Description: YAST sw_single is very powerful when it comes to package management... but the 'standard user' cares for applications, not for packages - those are just technicalities. With the introduction of AppStream metadata into the distribution (auto-generated on media creation) we gained support to better product descriptions. Various upstreams already ship an appdata.xml file, which describes the application in their words and can reference screenshots - making for a much better user interface. It would be great if YaST could pick up on this as well and either offer Applications as a new (default?) view of sw_single or introduce a new module - a software center (not a package manager) Relations: - Add a SHOW ONLY APPLICATIONS option in YaST's Software Management (feature/id: 312489) - (feature/duplicate: 310778) Discussion: #1: Jean-Daniel Dodin (jdd) (2016-01-07 17:11:58) A good beginning could be to add a button to hide "libXXX" files. AFAIK no lib file is installed per se, but always as dependency #2: Ladislav Slezák (lslezak) (2016-01-29 13:44:57) JFYI there already was some discussion at https://github.com/yast/yast-tune/pull/13. -- openSUSE Feature: https://features.opensuse.org/320175
