Feature changed by: Andreas Jaeger (a_jaeger) Feature #305929, revision 9 Title: Startup in X even when the xorg.conf fails - openSUSE-11.2: Unconfirmed + openSUSE-11.2: Evaluation Priority Requester: Important Projectmanager: Desirable Requested by: Joop Boonen (worldcitizen) Description: As there are more and more new users within openSuSE with less knowledge. I was thinking it's an option to boot in Vesa when the original xorg.conf fails. Than the user is still able to fix the problem via a GUI i.e. YaST and SAX. Discussion: #1: Rajko Matovic (rajko_m) (2009-03-01 14:58:20) Failsafe boot option should provide that, or you have some other idea, like to attempt to start Xorg again with xorg.install file if first start ends with error. #2: Joop Boonen (worldcitizen) (2009-03-01 17:21:53) (reply to #1) Fail boot does that indeed. I was thinking of an automatic fall back on X when xorg.conf fails, with a kdm i.e. *dm screen that shows the the xorg configuration failed, maybe including help how to to go about to fix it. I think the Fail Boot option is ideal but you need to know about this option to use it. I was thinking it might be extra helpful. #3: Stephan Kulow (coolo) (2009-03-30 20:36:09) this needs to be done in both gdm and kdm as they start the X server. So I would prefer a clone, but gdm already has something like that - at least it catches failing X server starts. I'm not sure if there are kdm developments for that in 4.3 #4: T. J. Brumfield (enderandrew) (2009-06-12 23:20:47) I assume you mean something like this: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BulletProofX -- openSUSE Feature: https://features.opensuse.org/305929
