Feature changed by: Konstantin Shtepa (Shtirliz72) Feature #311076, revision 5 Title: Change MAC via YaST openSUSE Distribution: Unconfirmed Priority Requester: Important Requested by: Anton Reznik (reanxp-rus) + Requested by: Konstantin Shtepa (shtirliz72) Partner organization: openSUSE.org Description: YaST can't change MAC-address. Now, for change this address need do ifconfig eth0 hw ether 00:00:00:11:22:33. Think, it's not SUSE-way. Change MAC-address may be simple. With YaST. + Added by Shtirliz72 28.11.2013: Many internet-providers in Russia use + autorisation through mac adress. It's not user-friendly when plain + users are go bypass yast in such often required operation. Discussion: #1: Tim Edwards (tk83) (2011-01-26 12:22:56) Why is this needed? YAST should be able to configure the most commonly used settings on a machine, so that the typical desktop user doesn't have to touch the command line. However changing the MAC address of a NIC is not a common desktop task, I don't understand why you'd even need to do it? #2: Anton Reznik (reanxp-rus) (2011-02-08 17:26:26) (reply to #1) yes, change mac it's not common desktop task. But YaST created not only for desktop tasks. Some ISP can bind internet-access for specially MAC- address. If i replace PC or network card, i can't authorize. And what if i need just change mac? I can't do it with YaST? #3: Jan Engelhardt (jengelh) (2011-02-18 01:15:46) ifcfg already supports this; use LLADDR= in /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-xyz. -- openSUSE Feature: https://features.opensuse.org/311076
