[opensuse-factory] Someone has installed the ATI video drivers in Opensuse Beta 2 or 3?
Hi! Someone has installed the ATI video drivers in Opensuse Beta 2 or 3 without problems? I Tryed to installa the latest ATI video driver and the compilation of the kernel module fails. It can be affected by starting with the boot parameter pci=nomsi? The graphic card is a Radeon HD 2400, and I have installed the source and headers of the kernel. This has nothing to do with openSUSE. Stock ATi driver is not compatible with 2.6.25 kernel. See http://www.frogge.de/pepper/patch/patch.html#fglrx

Is it not possible to provide an rpm with these patched packages?

ATI has released new Linux driver (v.8.5) yesterday. Kernel 2.6.25 should be supported out of the box, no patching required. -- Best Regards Ladislav Slezák Yast Developer ------------------------------------------------------------------------ SUSE LINUX, s.r.o. e-mail: lslezak@suse.cz Lihovarská 1060/12 tel: +420 284 028 960 190 00 Prague 9 fax: +420 284 028 951 Czech Republic http://www.suse.cz/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

It works without patching, indeed. -- Best Regards / S pozdravom, Pavol RUSNAK SUSE LINUX, s.r.o Package Maintainer Lihovarska 1060/12 PGP 0xA6917144 19000 Praha 9, CR prusnak[at]suse.cz http://www.suse.cz --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
Yes, it works, but It in my installation it freezes randomly.
I'm investigating why, I'll post here if I'll find something
interesting for the community

It seems that starting the kernel with acpi=off it works. I'm installing the new kernel too see if it helps --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I've resolved installing the kernel 2.6.25.4-7-default and doing the following: cd /usr/src/linux make mrproper make cloneconfig make modules_prepare make clean /usr/share/ati/fglrx-uninstall.sh sax2 -a sh /var/tmp/ati-driver-installer-8-5-x86.x86_64.run ldconfig aticonfig --initial --input=/etc/X11/xorg.conf init 3 sax2 -r -m 0=fglrx modprobe fglrx Now it works well I hope this can help others. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
No way!!
Sorry for the infinite replies... :-(
It still freezs and I don't how to fix it.
I'm almost sure it's related with the kernel, in fact the ati driver
works well with kernels prior to 2.6.25, patching the kernel as
raccomended by somes it doesn't help as well.
Now, while I'm replying with a ¢|¬§°#@°§¬°§|6 windows :-( , I'm
updating again the whole system.
If anybody has an idea on how to fix this problem it would be great!!!
Thanks

Now it works well

After 1 week of use I can say (I hope) I finally fixed the problem and it was by a wrong module configuration. Here you have the settings of my device in xorg.conf (it's a dualhead with big desktop): Section "Device" BoardName "Mobility FireGL V5200" Driver "fglrx" Identifier "Device[0]" Option "Capabilities" "0x00000800" Option "KernelModuleParm" "locked-userpages=0" Option "ForceMonitors" "auto,crt1" Option "VRefresh2" "56-76" Option "Mode2" "1024x768,1024x600,800x600 ,768x576,640x480" Option "FSAAScale" "0" Option "FSAAEnable" "off" Option "HSync2" "30-82" Option "DesktopSetup" "Horizontal" Option "XAANoOffscreenPixmaps" "true" Option "TexturedVideo" "on" Option "VideoOverlay" "off" Option "OpenGLOverlay" "off" Option "Textured2D" "on" Option "TexturedXrender" "off" Option "UseFastTLS" "1" Option "BackingStore" "on" VendorName "ATI" EndSection Section "Extensions" Option "Composite" "on" Option "RENDER" "Enable" Option "DAMAGE" "Enable" EndSection The most importants, that actually fixed the problem are Option "Capabilities" "0x00000800" Option "KernelModuleParm" "locked-userpages=0" I'm using a Lenovo T60p with a ATI Mobility FireGL V5200 I hope this can help.
