NOT a chance! Further, it may be your view, but I can assure you, it's NOT the view of management.
Bad management :-P
Nope........this agency runs VERY efficiently with low numbers of IT staff and has for sometime.
This problem of externals modules reminds me of a presentation I was told recently to watch:
http://www.linuxjournal.com/content/greg-kroah-hartman-linux-kernel-video
Interesting.
It lasts 45 minutes, you can't have watched it yet.
I watched all I needed to see for now. I'll watch all of it when I have time.
We can place blame for why things aren't as they should be for a long time. What needs to happen to to NOT make excuses and place blame elsewhere, but learn from crap like this and do whatever it take to see to it we don't have a repeat performance!! Linux hasn't gained hardly any market share on MickySoft over the past 2 yrs. Why not? The answer is EASY!! Linux MUST, MUST be easily installable and work EASILY out-of-the-box. If not, then who knows what will happen to Linux and those companies who have so much invested in it as the niche market is eroded even further by the "Evil Empire."
I have the personal rule of not encouraging to use linux to people that are not really prepared to use it, making an effort. Not individuals, not businesses.
More, I don't want linux to be terribly easy, I don't see a real advantage in that for me.
Linux CAN be "all to all people." It just isn't there yet. Well, I know a number who have that attitude....isolationism and elitism. I don't.
I hint that they could try it, and make clear the advantages and disadvantages. I don't want they get scared at the first problem and come crying to me, or worse, to others, "that linux is a very bad thing".
'Never had that happen and don't plan to either.
If they are really convinced linux is good for them, good! If they are not convinced, I will not push them. Not unless they have professional support and are really commited.
I don't encourage those who have very limited skills. If they can install 'Bloze well, then can install Linux.
So, if those friends of yours do not want suse because of this "contrariety", my opinion is "Good Riddance!". I'm happier without them.
That's ignorant......sorry, but it is.
And you should be happier, too. Something or other would have failed sooner or later and they would blame you. They are not prepared to really use linux.

Ok, this is effectively one of the most inane and insane threads I've come across around here lately. Can we suspend this thread please and not allow it to clutter up our archives anymore? On Mon, 2008-07-07 at 21:53 -0400, Fred A. Miller wrote:

In more minds then just Carlos' I'm afraid Fred. Quite right, businesses usually have a slow upgrade cycle, so if 10.3 works, it will be good for quite a while, perhaps for years after support has ended. I am sure there are businesses out there still using 8.0 that are not yet ready to make the jump as what they have "does the biz" and when they enter the long think cycle, they'll install on one box and test all their vital applications way before any though of deployment rears its head - that's the professional approach. I don't see why this is an openSUSE issue for one moment. I have had issues which I have had dealt with on other lists - uvc driver, m5602 camera driver and NVidia driver for development kernels. So by the time the kernel is released, those problems are a dead issue. Let's say I wanted dazuko on openSUSE 11.0 or 11.1 Alpha for that matter, I'd walk my mouse and fingers right over to the dazuko mailing list and have that/those issues resolved there, their mailing list is pretty active. I also see "this or that doesn't work on openSUSE 1x.y" postings on other lists that quite rightly never appear on this one. Better that than suddenly finding the software doesn't work with the latest greatest and having nothing other to contribute to the code but criticism. BTW, I couldn't find Fred's posting to the dazuko list, "couldn't find == absent". Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce ...
