[opensuse-factory] Packages needing a new maintainer
Hello, the recent changes to the openSUSE stable releases have removed all the reasons why I have been using and contributing to openSUSE for the last five and a half years. Since neither the new planned SLE-based releases nor Factory suit my needs and likely those of many other desktop users, I will no longer be involved with openSUSE. The following is hopefully a complete list of packages which I've been maintaining and which will need a new maintainer, if you're interested to take over send a maintainership request via OBS and refer project maintainers to this mail since I will no longer be active on OBS: Base:System/mawk Publishing/bibtool Publishing/mupdf Publishing/python-pybtex X11:RemoteDesktop/freerdp X11:RemoteDesktop/remmina X11:Utilities/lightdm X11:Utilities/lightdm-gtk-greeter X11:Utilities/lightdm-gtk-greeter-branding-openSUSE X11:Utilities/xsel X11:Utilities/xwrited X11:xfce/clearlooks-phenix-theme X11:xfce/exo X11:xfce/gigolo X11:xfce/gtk-xfce-engine X11:xfce/gtk2-theme-nimbus X11:xfce/keybinder X11:xfce/kiwi-live-xfce X11:xfce/libgarcon X11:xfce/libxfce4ui X11:xfce/libxfce4util X11:xfce/mousepad X11:xfce/orage X11:xfce/parole X11:xfce/pk-update-icon X11:xfce/ristretto X11:xfce/thunar X11:xfce/thunar-plugin-archive X11:xfce/thunar-plugin-media-tags X11:xfce/thunar-plugin-shares X11:xfce/thunar-plugin-vcs X11:xfce/thunar-volman X11:xfce/thunarx-python X11:xfce/tumbler X11:xfce/xfburn X11:xfce/xfce4-appfinder X11:xfce/xfce4-branding-openSUSE X11:xfce/xfce4-dev-tools X11:xfce/xfce4-dict X11:xfce/xfce4-icon-theme X11:xfce/xfce4-mixer X11:xfce/xfce4-notifyd X11:xfce/xfce4-panel X11:xfce/xfce4-panel-plugin-battery X11:xfce/xfce4-panel-plugin-clipman X11:xfce/xfce4-panel-plugin-cpufreq X11:xfce/xfce4-panel-plugin-cpugraph X11:xfce/xfce4-panel-plugin-datetime X11:xfce/xfce4-panel-plugin-diskperf X11:xfce/xfce4-panel-plugin-eyes X11:xfce/xfce4-panel-plugin-fsguard X11:xfce/xfce4-panel-plugin-genmon X11:xfce/xfce4-panel-plugin-mailwatch X11:xfce/xfce4-panel-plugin-mount X11:xfce/xfce4-panel-plugin-mpc X11:xfce/xfce4-panel-plugin-netload X11:xfce/xfce4-panel-plugin-notes X11:xfce/xfce4-panel-plugin-places X11:xfce/xfce4-panel-plugin-pulseaudio X11:xfce/xfce4-panel-plugin-sensors X11:xfce/xfce4-panel-plugin-smartbookmark X11:xfce/xfce4-panel-plugin-systemload X11:xfce/xfce4-panel-plugin-timeout X11:xfce/xfce4-panel-plugin-timer X11:xfce/xfce4-panel-plugin-verve X11:xfce/xfce4-panel-plugin-wavelan X11:xfce/xfce4-panel-plugin-weather X11:xfce/xfce4-panel-plugin-xkb X11:xfce/xfce4-power-manager X11:xfce/xfce4-screenshooter X11:xfce/xfce4-session X11:xfce/xfce4-settings X11:xfce/xfce4-taskmanager X11:xfce/xfce4-terminal X11:xfce/xfce4-vala X11:xfce/xfce4-volumed X11:xfce/xfconf X11:xfce/xfdesktop X11:xfce/xfmpc X11:xfce/xfwm4 X11:xfce/xfwm4-themes devel:languages:python/python-managesieve devel:openSUSE:Factory/pycarddav devel:openSUSE:Factory/sc devel:openSUSE:Factory/tmux devel:tools/tidy devel:tools:compiler/byacc devel:tools:compiler/pcc devel:tools:compiler/tcc devel:tools:scm/hg-git devel:tools:scm/hgview filesystems/zfs-fuse games/tint hardware/u3-tool network/tcl-tktray network:utilities/hostname server:irc/weechat server:mail/archivemail server:mail/offlineimap server:mail/slrn shells/dash shells/mksh utilities/otawk utilities/tmux -- Guido Berhoerster -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I am hoping that I can change your mind.
Since neither the new planned SLE-based releases nor Factory suit my needs and likely those of many other desktop users,
I agree openSUSE, with the current focus (Tumbleweed and Leap) leaves a gap, what I deem to be the middle ground. However, the door to this middle ground has not been shut. There is a possibility, although not likely to happen this year, that a Factory snapshot based distribution continues. We just have to figure out what that would look like and how it would be created and be maintained.
I will no longer be involved with openSUSE.
Before you run away, would you consider giving this another thought and a "grace period" of lets say 6-8 months? The dust on Leap needs to settle a bit first, I would say, before it is worth discussing other options of presenting a distribution from OBS as a middle ground. It would be great if you would reconsider. Sad to read that. Anyway, as XFCE user, I'm interested in keeping it working to some extent at least. Could you please add me as maintainer to X11:xfce and X11:xfce:Next, so that I can try to keep stuff building and do the occasional update when upstream releases new versions? Best regards, and thanks for all your work on making the openSUSE XFCE experience a great one. seife P.S.: this should not stop anyone from stepping up for maintaining the XFCE components / packages, I just want to make sure that an "OBS XFCE Project maintainer" is around and able to accept / commit changes. -- Stefan Seyfried "For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for nature cannot be fooled." -- Richard Feynman -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Yes, it's a pity that we lose the really good maintainer for my favorite desktop. Feel free to add me to X11:xfce* project maintainer, too, as I'm also willing to keep them working. thanks, Takashi

Add me as well as co-maintainer. No XFCE would imply I'd have to find a different distribution. Guido's opensuse.org email address is already bouncing, so probably a buildservice admin needs to add us. "osc requestmaintainership" should be the standard way to ask. Michal Kubeček -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Any project maintainer can do it. for X11:xfce that's at least factory-maintainers, but X11:xfce:Next only has Guido as maintainer... I have asked for maintainership for those two packages, as I'm building and working with nightly builds of the packages since a while (see home:weberho:UNSTABLE:RemoteDesktop).
