I was just attempting to be lighthearted about the "bad" being in the name :) -- opensuse:tumbleweed:20170804 Qt: 5.9.1 KDE Frameworks: 5.36.0 KDE Plasma: 5.10.4 kwin 5.10.4 kmail2 5.5.3 akonadiserver 5.5.3 Kernel: 4.11.8-2-default Nouveau: 1.0.15_1.2 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Yes, the first time I saw that name I was very surprised. Why would I want bad software? Or even ugly software? What programmer would do that? But as it was needed and instructions said to install them all, I went ahead. That was years ago. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 42.2 x86_64 "Malachite" at Telcontar)

We should rename all the things in openSUSE:Factory:NonFree then and have them prefixed by NonFree-. Then ask the question again why would anyone want nonfree software :-p -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Which means what? We have FOSS, that is free and open source. But we also have freely distributed binaries, for example the blobs that are the video card drivers from nVidia and AMD. They are not charged for but we are constrained by the licence agreement and not free to modify them. -- I suspect that, over time, all bureaucratic processes decay into cargo cults unless regularly challenged by a hostile reality. -- Alan Rocker, 23-Nov-2011 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Non-free means not free software. What you're describing is "freeware" which is proprietary and should be labeled as such. Tautologically nothing in our repos require user payment, so I legitimately don't understand where price comes into this. FWIW, I wouldn't have a problem with the repo being called openSUSE:Factory:Proprietary. -- Aleksa Sarai Software Engineer (Containers) SUSE Linux GmbH https://www.cyphar.com/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
