[opensuse-factory] Can't install RStudio RPM package
I downloaded the most recent stable rpm build of RStudio and attempted to install it without success. I tried to remove the old rstudio package before proceeding, but zypper did not find the package, although I could launch rstudio by running the command in the terminal. Command to attempt removal of rsudio: -- sudo zypper rm rstudio Loading repository data... Reading installed packages... 'rstudio' not found in package names. Trying capabilities. No provider of 'rstudio' found. Resolving package dependencies... Nothing to do. -- So perhaps I really do need to figure out why the old rsudio package I had also install via the rpm package from source could not be found nor removed, but could still run. The command I used to install rstudio was: sudo zypper install rstudio-0.99.902-x86_64.rpm This error was given: -- Error building the cache: [|] Failed to cache repo (1). Building repository 'Plain RPM files cache' cache ........................................................[done] Error building the cache: [|] Failed to cache repo (1). Warning: Skipping repository 'Plain RPM files cache' because of the above error. Some of the repositories have not been refreshed because of an error. Loading repository data... Find out the correct rpm name of the installed package. Supposing you run the program calling "XYZ", then do: which XYZ the answer might be /path/XYZ Then do: rpm -qf /path/XYZ The answer will be a package name, so try to uninstall that. If the answer is none, then there is no rpm package to remove. Either you did not install an rpm package, or the database is corrupt.
So perhaps I really do need to figure out why the old rsudio package I had also install via the rpm package from source could not be found nor removed, but could still run.
If you installed from source there is no rpm to remove. - -- Cheers Carlos E. R. Thanks. Then I am guessing there should be no reason why I can't just zypper in the rstudio rpm package which I have been doing for awhile. Why then am I getting this error when trying to install the rpm package? Error building the cache: [|] Failed to cache repo (1). You should remove the installed version, probably using "make uninstall", but that should not impede the rpm from working.

I don't have it clear. One posibility is that your rpm database is corrupted, in which case you have to do something like: rpm --rebuilddatabase but I'm not sure of the syntax (not in man). Another posibility is that the oneclick you used is bad. If you know where is the rpm file, just download it and use "rpm" to install it. - -- Cheers Carlos E. R. It is "rpmdb --rebuilddb" - -- Cheers Carlos E. R. I have explored the issue further with someone who mailed me directly, and through testing, have rebalanced my btrfs drive, rebuilt the database, and ran zypper clean to no avail. I then tested whether I could install the Dropbox rpm and it gave the same error: -- Error building the cache: [|] Failed to cache repo (1). Building repository 'Plain RPM files cache' cache ............................................................[done] Error building the cache: [|] Failed to cache repo (1). -- So my problem seems to be somewhere along the way, my TW installation lost the ability to build the 'Plain RPM files cache'. Remedies?

Why Dropbox? Is it not an official package? Why?
and it gave the same error:
-- Error building the cache:
I would prefer to see the full output including what do you type to produce the error, ie, the command call. I don't know what you are doing. - -- Cheers Carlos E. R.
