The following 110 packages are going to be REMOVED: boost-license1_53_0 1.53.0-4.1.2 checkinstall 1.6.2-22.1.2 ...
On a system that I installed on March (as Milestone 0, but since update to 20140904), it wanted to remove 52 packages. On a system that I installed around June 1 (updated to 20140904), it wanted to remove 33 packages. On a system installed around Aug 01, it wanted to remove 3 packages. All three of those had approx the same software installed. I've run "zypper dup" on the second of those without problem, and am in the middle of updating the last. My guess is that this is a cleanup snapshot, removing old detritus. The older the system, the more is removed. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Factory (and later, openSUSE 13.2) has a list of packages that have been dropped from factory/the distribution. On zypper dup of the "openSUSE-distribution" package, zypper will (try to) remove these old packages if they are not used by anything else. Besides looking at what zypper shows as REMOVED you should also peek a look at what NEW things it installs; you may find boost-license1_54_0 there for example. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

My guess is that this is a cleanup snapshot, removing old detritus. The older the system, the more is removed.
Ok, perhaps I was a bit hasty or overwhelmed by the shear volume. I will apply locks to checkinstall which is still rather handy and perhaps fam, but tightvnc has been replaced by tigervnc and can go with the rest. tks, -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Went ahead and did "zypper -v up" instead but something is not kosher!
You can verify that all of them are orphaned by calling: zypper packages --orphaned All zypper is trying is to remove orphaned packages if they are known drops from Factory. And we fixed the logic maintaining this list of of known drops this week, so that's why you see them all now. Hello list, I'm sorry for sorta off-topic, but can anybody confirm or deny if it is safe enough to use NVidia proprietary drivers with current Factory? Thank you -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I can neither confirm nor deny that it does ;-) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I am using the 304.123 driver for my older card. That's working fine. Note the opensuse 13.1 uses the 304.121 driver, which does not work on factory. I did need to get a newer driver from the nvidia download site. That's the story for my card. I cannot guess about your card. I would suggest you look for the newest possible driver, and expect to install the hard way. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I have used both 340.24, 340.32 and 343.13 w/o a problem on Factory since moving from Tw on 19 July. I really need cuda and the accelerated graphics for working with photographs. gud luk, -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Thank you I'm using Nvidia Proprietary drivers with 13.2 04 release. Going to update tonight to latest. I have not been able to get repo Nvidia drivers to install and run. I did uninstall all Nvidia .run stuff first. See signature below for Nvidia version I am using.

1st try at clean installation on my Radeon machine reveals the 12.3 GRUB2 zombie bug which screws the final display but not GRUB2 is still there. I may try some more GRUB2 resolutions to fix it. If I do, I hope I can find one that will work for both GRUB2 and the final display. Last attempt got the final display working but chopped a chunk off GRUB2. -- Graham Davis, Bracknell, Berks. openSUSE 13.2-m0 (64-bit); KDE 4.14.0; AMD Phenom II X2 550 Processor; Kernel: 3.16.1; Video: nVidia GeForce 210 (using nouveau driver); Sound: ATI SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
