OK, but I don't understand. This is an OLD laptop. The Quadro 3000M came out in February 2011. Is that still considered a "newer" laptop/card?
David, For your HP laptop add |GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="acpi_backlight=vendor acpi_osi=''" to /etc/default/grub and install xbacklight to control your backlight. Run grub2-mkconfig -o/boot/grub2/grub.cfg and reboot your laptop.
