[01-08-19 20:41]: I use the kernel from .../Kernel:/stable/standard/.
Just now I upgraded all the kernel-default files in Leap 15.0 (I manually compile the nVidia driver) and found that while the file kernel-syms rpm was a 1.5MiB download only 345BYTES were unpacked and installed.
I haven't yet upgraded Tumbleweed or Leap 15.1 but there I can see that the kernel-syms file (4.20.0-3.1) is also installed as 345Bytes big.
Looking inside the rpm file, what one sees is as per the attached.
What is the correct size of kernel-sysm file, anyone? why do you need kernel-syms? I have been compling nvidia drivers for many years and have not ever installed kernel-syms, only: kernel-* (default) kernel-default-devel kernel-devel kernel-firmware kernel-macros
for Tw and Leap*
I cannot remember why I have always installed kernel-syms possibly because of this entry in the rpm's descrption: <quote> This package is needed for compiling kernel module packages with proper package dependencies. </quote> Perhaps of the above, I noticed for the first time that when I rebooted the system I saw the warning msg "Failed to Start to Load Kernel Modules" -- but it's probably been there for a very long time and I have never paid attention to it. And as you have never used kernel-syms then I shall ignore it as well from now on :-). BC -- God created war so that Americans can learn geography.
