i have read a lot on SSE2 optimizations on the list, which are rewind for Qt5 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=897758 but even Firefox doesn't work on AthlonXP
Simple question: Is it possible to upgrade a AthlonXP machine without SSE2 to Factory or 13.2 or is the last possible openSUSE for this machine really 13.1? {snip} There will be no easy solution, to small the niche, at least for openSUSE.
recompiling the kernel on such a machine would be a pain also trial an run-error and recompile all the needed apps
also recompiling is not an option for people willing to convert from WindowsXP to Linux
As openSUSE 13.1 is working fine and LTS it would be an option or just another Distri is needed
I am a bit disappointed i cannot recommend openSUSE anymore for anyone :-( and i cannot explain MS-converters why to use the old version of openSUSE, would be to complicated and not encouraging to try it.
Well, AFAIK openSUSE 13.1 is the next Evergreen, so LTS is not out of the question for 13.1, but yes, there will be a break between machines new enough for Factory and those old for the next release. The last AthlonXP sold as new comp was more than seven or so years ago. Fedora, for example, does not give any guaranty for being usable on hardware more than five years old. For such old machines there are other distros that deliver more support than openSUSE ever could. For example the "Puppy"-distro.
