If libc is broken nothing will work, your are screwed and that 's the end of the story.
Wow... I guess I never recovered. My libc wasn't broken --- all the suse binaries were. I had the standard libc from gnu... latest and greatest -- with complete backwards compat -- just like I told was needed/provided with it...
