Just a bit more info: With the pre-2400 series cards, in addition to the rotation causing compositing to be shut down, With the radeonhd driver, the following effects cause an error to appear in the notification area after clicking "Apply" that " " effect could not be activated: explosion fall apart magic lamp A work-around is to "Disable functionality checks" on the "Advanced" tab of the Desktop Effects page. -- David C.
