Here's the latest driver update for e1000e posted in Jan/2013. You'll have to compile it into the kernel.

Thanks. That won't build against the OpenSUSE 3.8.0-28/29 kernels. Interestingly enough, I've nor rolled back to 3.4.28-2.20-desktop and ethtool still says the card's not there:
